Any 100X Optical Zoom Lens For DVX100A Camcorders?

[andybiz_2005]

Hi all,

I was wondering if any of you are aware of any lens companies producing/selling extremely powerful (100X optical zoom factor or more) zoom lens that is mountable to the front of the DVX100A camcorder via the camcorder's lenshood's thread.

I know Century Optics does produce zoom lenses, but only X2, or X1.6.

Also, is it possible to buy say a telescope lens & modify the smaller end so that it can be screwed into the thread of the DVX's lens hood? I'm very intersted to know as the DVX's X10 zoom factor is quite limited compared to other camera's zoom factor of X20.

thanks in advance,

Andrew

I don't know of any, but if one exists you should prepare for it to be extremely expensive. Several thousands, possible tens of thousands if using still camera lenses as a reference. Why do you need it?

Well, I shoot mostly weddings & find that the DVX's zoom can be quite limited, esp when I plan on shooting from far & zoomed all the way in to remain unobtrusive to the wedding couple. Also, when shooting sports & track events, a much more powerful zoom factor would be useful to zoom in close up to runners on a track for example when I can't get physically close to them.

If non exists, is it possible to buy a telescope lens & somehow modify the front smaller end to fit a 72mm thread to it so it can be screwed into the from lens hood of my DVX? What about the quality of the image & any distortions to the image?
