Just watched this film last night and really enjoyed it. Of course it was like looking in mirror for me...but I'd love to know what others thought of it?

saw it theaters one of the best docs in a while very strong and its nice to know that they are actually gain popularity due to the doc. they were on conan a week ago.

It was great.

SPOILER:

I thought the last scene was edited so well. You didn't know if they would walk out to a full house or a dismal crowd.

Anvil! is like the exact opposite of another doc thats running alot lately: Iron Maiden Flight 666. Seeing Bruce Dickenson pilot their tour plane, it's like, Damn! These guys have done so well for themselves.

I haven't seen the movie yet Joe but will look for it. Meantime it brought back some memories ...

Anvil:

I 'had' one of thier albums. Can't remember now which one but maybe it was 'Metal on Metal' I'm thinking.

Motorhead:

Another metal/thrash band...
Our old drummer sucked this stuff up like gravy on potatoes.
He would literally bounce up and down off his drum stool while playing this stuff, like driving a 1940's car down an old bumpy dirt road at full tilt.
17yrs old he was then I think (our drummer, not this one. We were 30-ish playing on the road with a complete pyscho 17yr old drummer. That kid could play though, damn.)

Lee Aaron:

Born in my hometown(another one). I always thought she had a kick ass voice.
I think they were a little too 80's glamour commercial style and maybe that's why she didn't get the success she deserved. Hindsight though.
Mom bought me her 'Metal Queen' cassette tape for Christmas once. Hey. Rock-n-roll.

Yeah.. the good old days... did I ever tell you about my night with Lita Ford?
She almost broke me like a pretzel!

Nope. Never told me about Lita Ford.

I had another story to tell you but , yo, later. Maybe in a PM then.

It was a great documentary.

I'm not particularly interested in making documentaries. But, I found myself thinking, "If I ever make a documentary, I hope it's something like this."

You really feel for the guys in the band and you really root for them.

I didn't get to see the end. Now I feel like I missed something.

I was weaned on metal and spent my formative years playing in clubs around NY/NJ doing covers of Metallica, Priest, Anthrax, Maiden... Listening to those guys brought me back, but it also made me sad. They are so stuck in that 80's (non-hair) metal genre. It just isn't commercially relevant anymore. That, in and of itself, isn't sad because they are doing what they love. It just makes them seem so stagnant. So it comes across as kind of pathetic when there expectations are so high, and you can tell that no matter how well the album is produced, it's just not going to go very far.

But holy crap are they ever positive and persistent. Something to learn there.

Oh, and I have Lee Aaron's Call of the Wild album. I saw her video on some UHF station at midnoight and ran out the next day to pick up the LP. Man...those were the days.

Finally saw it. I agree the 80's thing has seen it's day. I know a few musicians who are holding along the same lines, but there's nothing you can say to them.

In this case the only saving grace may be the proceeds from the generation of that time who seem to be the ones with the money now who go out and see those bands. Often I assume just to relive those 'good ol days' and bring back some good memories.

The one and only high end establishment here in town caters to that crowd and is doing extremely well.

I hope the best for them in that they get to pocket something half decent for the 30+ years of entertaining they've provided. The video, the new album selling direct and thier web page I'm sure will help make the difference. I think this is the official page according to google...

shi* man. Good video, good band, good bunch of guys.
Thanks for the post Zaza.

Lee Arron also. She deserves better.

//edit: Just found a smoking Lee arron tune I haven't heard before, a little more mature, thought I'd pass it on. Also heard she's singing Jazz exclusivley now and has renounced her preivious rock carreer. Yaaaaay Arron.

Man, I'll have to look look for that. She was another one with a questionable manager. Glad she's found a home in Jazz. She can sing boy. Previous mention not quite as bit as old as the others...

///Sorry for the ongoing Arron edit. But she's older than me and, well, can she STOP looking so hot? Her new jazz stuff is contrastingly feminine to her metal days. Great stuff Lee ( I keep wanting to call her Arron for some reason, ha.).
