need your help brother, I am having a hard time in fcp with audio specially with hvx audio files, how in the hell do you work with two mono tracks, I usually shoot with an shotgun mic set to imput two on the hvx, both channels are set to imput 2, I know you can make both tracks stereo but its a pain in the ass having to select each clip go to modify and change it to stereo, how do you do it man?

bottom line why does the hvx create 2 mono tracks and how do you fix it?

thanks man

aalleexx: I'm actually not an HVX expert. I own one, but I am too lazy to open the box and study the sound inputs right now :) So I am going to make the assumption that there are 2 XLR inputs, each one mono on the camera.

That means that you can hook up two discreet sound sources and input those sound sources to separate tracks. (correct me people if I am wrong here).

Therefore, for example, you could have your shotgun record on to track 2, and then a separate mic, like a lav. attached to your actor record to the other track.

What is probably confusing you is that when you bring your audio into FCP, your dialog from your mic is only on one track, not two. Some other cameras, consumer things ,etc, just sort of do a ghetto premix to stereo for you.

The fact is, dialog is always recorded mono and then split out to both channels. In 5.1, the dialog is the center channel, in stereo mixes, the dialog is usually split evenly between left and right.

So it is preferable for you to have a mono dialog track. Final Cut Pro will default to sending that audio to both speakers if you leave it mono and don't pan it left or right with the mixer or audio tool. So basically, you can just leave that dialog alone.

Of course, if you are developing a more sophisticated sound design, you may start panning for effect, that's when you start using your audio tools, or a program like soundtrack.

I hope this answer helps. I am not a sound wizard, so perhaps someone more sound saavy has a better explanation than I do?
