 just got the mics - didnt want to make a new thread to clutter the place up..)

so in the end it cost me $450AU (2x k3u +me40&me80) - just got a battery for them (camera hasnt arrived yet) - can someone tell me what the switches do?

i know one is for power on and off... but there is also a 3 way switch - is this the sensativity option? i hooked it up via a XLR - mic adapter and then into my sound system (i can't damage the mics by doing this can i?) - hope not cos i have already done it.....

but it seems quietish

ok pub holidays are almost over here in AU - so i will be able to get my camera soon (the dvx100a ya)...

on the mic side of things - my package came with a panasonic AG-MC100G as seen here

http://videoguys.com.au/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=1159

but i was looking at asking the guy to drop that off the package and give the rode NTG-2 instead - just recently though a 2nd hand store is offering the ME80 with K-3u for around $250 AU....

other that the obvious new vs second hand - can someone relate the quality of the ME80 to something mic which is available today?

thx

Very nice mike for the price , for my ears it sounds better then the me 66 , k6 , dont know the rode
the only thing that the me80 with the ku3 can be a little bit long fror on camera mounting perpes

I haven't played with the rode yet, but some folks who I know are evaluating them have said that they didn't like them as much as the AT897. I'd go with the ME80.

thx for the reply guys - dont really intend on using as an onboard mic - more a boom mic...

curiously i got this pic

this is the first me80 i have seen so i am wandering - will this be a problem? seems like there should be a tip on top shouldnt there?

Also just saw another one on sale
http://www.ccslightsound.com.au/cgi-bin/cimpublic/retrieve.cgi?catalog_id=1.7&dbname=secondhand

but this includes the ME40 head as well.. would the me40 head be worth the extra?

I've used the ME80 on several occasions and love it. It's a great mic. It is, however, missing the screen on top as you've suggested, but if it's a good deal and if the seller can confirm that it is working properly, then you should definitely jump on it. You could also check with Sennheiser for replacement parts.

FYI, B&H lists used ME80s with K3 modules for approx. US $250

ok i just got the mic... cost me AU$300 deliverd - and i just found out it was on ebay (wen through someone who advised me later it was an ebay sale...)

anyway.. hope it works out and is better than the RODE mic that I was going to purchase for $AU400

I have the ME80 with the older power supply (the one that uses the old mercury p67 cells) --

reading from the post above ... the K3 power supply works with the ME80 ?

If this is true, in addition to phantom powering the ME80 I could now use a AA battery with the K3 ?

Can someone please confirm this ?

Thanks !

the k3u doesnt take aa , it work from 5 v battery ( sh,,, i have black out on that , dont remember if it right :-)) or 48 ph , the k2u work with thesame battery or 12 v t (a-b) power

from what i read the k3u uses some 'special' battery - hopefully i will find som local - in saying that though i will most likely be using phantom power for the majority of the time any how...

BTW go another K3U with the ME40head - that the guy was going to put on Ebay for an aditional 150 so- total of $AU450 for used 2x k3u and 1x me40 and 1x me80 - what do u guys think about that?

now for the waiting game... when i get ill post here to get opinions on sound..

thx guys
