Another Tascam! DR100MII

Hey guys! First time poster, long time reader here in the forums. The new Tascam looks awesome (on paper). I went to B&H yesterday and the guy in the audio department showed me their release email. It's supposed to release today (December 12) so hopefully they'll get it in stock soon! I'm definitely going to pick up a copy to replace my original. In the meantime, they're selling the original at a discount. A pretty sweet deal for those looking for a good portable recorder.

$230 for the tascam dr100 is a very good deal-imho.

the dr100 is a very decent machine.

sure it could be improved by the new ver2 but the original dr100 was awfully good.

ymmv

be well

Coming back into sound, the new Tascams really seem to be the final nail in the coffin to H4ns, so I hope :) I was thinking this new Tascam 100 model is really good and around the Zoom/old DR-100 price (it's $330 now B&H) and offers a lot more with the update, most important for dialogue/film related needs being the inputs, a digital in, and 2 XLR ports - switchable from mic to balanced line in (and REAL line level +4 Dbu) Just streamlines things nicely like nothing else could. I suppose if you used a mixer exclusively, the DR-40 with the as stated same XLR mic-line capability would be cheaper by around $130. But the dr100mkii offers more options and flexibility over DR-40 that would be worth the extra price imo if you also or will use a mic directly to the recorder, such as dialed level controls, separate line-out and head phone jacks, AND the XLR dials/gain can be adjusted independently (it's linked with the DR-40).

I just have a feeling this will become a new fav though I've read some battery issues right now in phantom and not sure how improved the internal preamp is over the old one. EIN by avisoft rates the new mkii as 119 dbu, which is 6 more than original and 12 above DR-40. That's a high improvement imo, for a handheld internal preamp at least.

Again if you use a mixer not as much an issue - I still think the Sony PCM-10 has the best internal preamp at that price despite no XLR puts.

Anyways some good helpful links if people have been wanting more harder to find information on the new dr100mkii like me (harder just because it is less than a month from having been out):

I know this new TASCAM DR-100 mkII is just out but can anyone really tell if the internal preamps are really superior to those in the ultra cheap Zoom H1 or the H4n? or even its own predecessor DR-100? I want to find out which one will give me the cleanest audio coming out of its line output so that I could connect a line directly into my Canon T3i. I use Sennheiser G2 wireless mics and they sound great when I connect them directly into my Canon T3i (I'm not making a film-just for interviews etc) but after trying connecting a cable in the line output from both first a Zoom H1 and then a H4n, I found the audio to be hissy and not as good as the sound recorded with the Sennheiser by themselves or the sound recorded directly internally in the H1 and H4n. I guess their preamps are weak too...so, how would this new Tascam compare SPECIFICALLY when it comes to the audio coming out of its line out. I want to avoid having to sync audio in post while having some monitoring abilities. The new Tascam has a separate headphone out jack and and I don't think I would even need a cable with a -35db attenuator to connect to the mic in on the T3i since it seems that one can select line/mic levels on the new Tascam. Any first hand opinions perhaps?
thanks
E
