another Squeeze issue..

I have captured my footage from tape to FCP.
Everything in FCP is set at DV NTSC Anamorphic because I shot using squeeze. The export settings also match.
Still, when I export to .mov, it's still 4:3 with no letter box or anything.

WHYYYY!!!!?!

(also, does anyone think there should be a sticky Squeeze thread due to the amount of questions asked about using squeeze??!)

No, I don't think this should be a sticky because it is BASIC knowledge. I mean BASIC video stuff.

16:9 or widescreen is NOT the same as Anamorphic. Anamorphic refers to the image being warped.

When you shoot squeeze, it IS 4:3... just that the pixels are stretched. Once you flag the material as anamorphic some applications actually read that flag and all is fine... like FCP.

SO...

IF you are going to DVD - don't worry --- fix it in DVDSP
IF you are going to the web, use the OPTIONS and SIZE in the CONVERSION dialog box. ( I like 480x270)
IF you want to fix it the hard way...

Open the file in Quicktime Player... hit APPLE-J then, make sure the TOP name is selected Clip 8.mov or whatever. Select the PRESENTATION tab and check CONFORM APERTURE TO: CLEAN

Good luck

If you want 4:3 letterbox you need to create a new 4:3 sequence and nest your 16:9 edit into it. If you want a 16:9 QuickTime, export resized to 853x480.

And actually I totally agree it should be part of a Sticky FAQ. If there's one thing I can say after years of being on these forums is that 16:9 vs. 4:3 is anything but "BASIC" knowledge. Go to any regional film festival projecting on video and you'll see exactly what I mean...
