Another Southern State

Can one live well in Huntsville on $75K? (more like $78K, but let's not quibble)

Not necessarily smack dab in the middle of it. I don't mind a 30 minute drive. (+/-)

And what would it be like, trying to get a film thing going there? (Gotta be better than here. At least there, they'll speak English. More or less.)

You can probably live like a king for that in Alabama. Very low cost of living. Might be a bit of a culture shock, though. As someone who grew up in and loves the south (and look forward to returning one day), it is it's own culture. It is socially conservative and religion is more explicit than in other parts of the US. Like anywhere, though, you can find a huge diversity of people, interests, and attitudes in Alabama. I'm only speaking in generalities relative to other regions of the US.

Why? :) There are 4 jobs opening up and, so far, they've only been able to find 1 person willing to take one. (Actually, there are more than 4...something like 12, but the other 8 are at my current grade, and I won't do a straight lateral).

I have to leave here by September 2007, but waiting for them to find me something...I'd be taking my chances on where. DC is a favorite dumping ground. Yecch.

So I'd be better off finding my own. I'd prefer Nevada, but the pickings are slim. I fer sure don't want SoCal. Been there, done that. Saw down her t-shirt.

Texas is another possibility...but damn! it's big and empty.

At least with Huntsville, I could easily drive up to Tennessee and see the choochoo. (Pardon me, boys. That was a feeble try at humor.)

Unfortunately, I missed the dream job. Working for Fish & Wildlife in Florida. Working from home. Monitoring a computer that counted fish in a hatchery. At that pay rate.

I hate how people generalize the south. I live in Louisiana (but then again, probably the most civilized part of it), and I mean, we don't marry our sisters... that's just nasty.

But our cousins are still fair game.

You can live pretty well there on $75k. Your first duty when you arrive is to drive over the practice overpass. Just ask, everyone will know where it is. Truly worthy of a short documentary, if one hasn't already been made.

I thought this thread was about a new state... but anyways...

Come on down! We make films in the South too!

Now your talking.

John is headed to this side of the US of A soon if I'm not mistaken.

Soon we shall all unite and create a wonderful film with a crew formed entirely of DVXUser talent!

I agree 100% I was born in Santa Cruz, CA and go back to that area every year. I love that from where I live I can be at the ocean or the mountains in just a couple hours.

Yes !

We are stacking the Southeast with some 24p talent.

Yeah, LarryR... any Hudsonologist worth his weight in salt knows that. I'm not sure you're worthy to be President of the John Hudson Fanboy Club. :cheesy:

Perhaps, you need a little time off to study? :banned: :)
