Another Slo-Mo question....

*I originally posted this in the DVX100 Technical thread but I think that was wrong*

So I shot a scene at 30p 120shutter, capture into FCP5, put it on a 23.98 timeline, set the speed to 80%, and render. The problem is I get repeating frames not individual frames like I thought I would get. For example:

Frame 1 2 3 4 4 5 6 7 8 8 9 10 11 12 12... and so on.

What am I doing wrong?:(

I don't think FCP's slomo is smart enough to understand what you are doing so to make sure the is no blending or remapping involved I'd conform the clip to 23.98 using Cinema Tools.

Have you (or anyone) tried to do slomo in FCP?
So how do I conform it using Cinema Tools? I've never used that software and frankly it looks pretty scary to me :undecided And I thought the clip was already 23.98 when I captured it.

Yeah I usually do quick slomos in FCP but render them in AFX for better quali later. Cinema Tools is actually pretty easy to use. You just ignore anything about batch databases or whatever, open your clip, click "conform" at select the framerate you want. Save, done.
Didn't you say the clip was 30p?

Follow moebius' advice. conforming to 23.98 in Cinema Tools is easy, and takes no time.

Then import the 'new' file into FCP and lay it in a 23.98 timeline. At 100% speed in the timeline you will now be viewing the material at 80% of its filmed speed. You can now slow it further, or speed it to around 125% to get 'normal' play.

All of this with no repeated frames, whether frame blending is on or not.

Good luck,
Jared
