Another site critique

I re-designed the look of my site a few weeks ago, and meant to get some feedback.

The purpose of this site is when I apply for gigs online via Craig or mandy, I can send links to my work, and also to a webpage where they can see more than just my reel.

I'm not advertising a business, just promoting the work I've done to get more... does that make sense? Just think of it as an online portfolio.

Your trying way to hard to be web 2.0 with your reflections and gradients.
I would drop the gradient as your backround, or make it just 2 colors.
Also - If your going for the web2.0 look, use hotpink as your secondary style.
When i first saw your sig, and your site - It made me think, Does this guy work for apple? Its one thing to say your certified, and another to plaster the companys logo on every inch of your site.
I would also change the apple logo up top, to just say "Apple Certified Pro"
IMHO, the FAQ should be on a seperate page.

Dont take my words to rough, just take a step back and think about some of my ideas.

As a videographer/ cinematographer/ whatever-ograher, I think your website needs a more visual punch on the home page. Your 'all text based' homepage might be not stimulating enough to grab the potential clients interest. I would move the Q&A stuff to another page and have your best work featured on the home page.

You also need to brand yourself a little more professionally. In the video/film world you need to self brand yourself in the best way possible. Don't mention weddings, but offer "Event Videography available, please inquire" or something like that. Not to knock the wedding videographers out there, but people looking to hire for music videos or indie shorts might pass you up due to the stigma of the wedding shooter.

Looking at your clips, I'd say you've got some good stuff going for you. I just want you to make people see that immediately when they arrive to your site... not some first person Q&A's.

EDIT: I second that guy above me, at first the Apple Logo and the text font reminded me of apple and I just guessed you used some kind of Mac website builder to make your website. I would try to knock the apple stuff back a bit.

I think you have to much going on. I felt overwhelmed with text and all the links on your menu bar. You might want to consolidate your pages to a maximum of 5 if possible and get rid of the FAQ thing.

good luck!

get rid of the apple logo ASAP. in your sig as well. Steve Jobs will sue you to hell for using it.

You cleanly caught my old flash player and offered to install the new version instead of throwing up a blank screen. Good.

Some of the text does not render very well, particularly the red link text. The menu font renders very nicely.

Thanks for the comments. I tend to agree with a number of things.. maybe I'll get around to them before too long.

Yeah the web 2.0 thing was what I was going for, how could you tell? : ) I know it's played out, but the clients love the look.

Part of becoming a certified pro is that you get use of the logo on busniess cards, websites, etc. I always like to advertise it when I can.. that alone has gotten me hired over others for big projects. But I def see how one would think it was an Apple-created webspace or something, which I don't want, so it should probably go...

Thanks for the suggestions guys!
