Another shoulder mount topic..BUT..i need critical advice pls!

So i;m going between the cavision set up...and the redrock shoulder mount and i need you guys who have used them to help annswer this.

things i need:
1.SGBlade compatible - i dont have one but i want one in the future
2. able to RIG up a counterbalance.
3. tripod to shoulder hassle free.

** camera-- DVX1000b

Cavision price is good ...and i dont mind a little modding( putting foam on it, attaching a counter balance) But the disadavantage i see is that i cant attach to a tripod (or can i??) the ability to move from tripod to shoulder hassle free is big to me. Also a counter balance is important to me cuz i dont wanna tire 2 quickly. I can easly attach one to the back of the cavision. I know its SGblade compatible. if theres a way to attach the cavision to the tripod...then i;m getting that! anyone??

Redrock shoulder is already out of my price range...but for hassle free tripod to shoulder i may have to shell out the $$. However i'm not seeing where i can rig up a counterbalance. they have a cheesplate thingy plus other add ons u need for it...totally pushing that price out of my reach. so thats not even a consideration. Any of u rig counterbalances for urs?

it looks like i'd get tired quicky usuing that without any counter balance. You guys that have it...how do u deal with not having a counterbalance on the back. hurts in no time? Is it sgblade compatable?

edit : does the indirailspro fit this bill?

There are a few options, the CAVISION is quite versatile, but it is the the tripod plate, a separate add on that will attach it to the tripod. Counterbalance is with batteries or weights extend from the back from a rod connection, I will post some picts later, this might be helpful since i just finished today "modding" out my rig with a CAVISION shoulder pad. Cheers

thank u Philip...i'm surprised to see u down on my lowely level :) and using Cavision, as i;ve seen (or thought so) u use Zacuto. I;d luv to see ur rig...and also if u can point me in the direction of the plate for it that would be helpful. Or is it that are u saying your (or anyone's) tripod plate (quick release plate) can work? Maybe i;m not understanding the logistics since i haven't seen the cavsion properly. I already had some nice plans to mod mine but this tripod thing was holding me back..i like the look of it and for the price i think its a good deal.

Building the Perfect Beast

Building the Perfect Beast

We're all Indie filmmakers, the only level is what you set for yourself. We use what works and what we can afford, mixing and matching is our expression and personal taste.

Zacuto is fantastic and innovative in every way, and their solid design for base plates, Z balance and Rods are essential but i'm not fond of the their shoulder pad because its not curved and not adjustable to the shoulder. Also we needed some feet for the back end as well. We are working with Zacuto on a more permanent , optimized solution but for now, we wanted something today. We're like most shooters, impulsive and experimental. lol

I had some parts lying around and with some feedback from some very creative DVX USERS, we put together a newer version of the rig. But only using it on set will finalize the rig. This is where we are this week, lol

There are picts with the the Cinemek G35 adapter and without, on the same hand held rig though. Zacuto mixed with Cavision, a leather padded bag strap was added for comfort, hope this helps open up the options for you. One of the best Tripod plates is the Z balance, it is for front heavy rigs. A standard Bogen QR plate takes it off the rod setup and mounts it on the tripod, there at least 6 different ways this can be setup, it's very versatile, hope this helps mate!

Cheers.

Oh and by standard bogen are u speaking of 1/4" ? Cuz i got two 1/4" QR plates with my tripod...this one to be exact http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...ford_QRFM18_Quick_Release_Mounting_Plate.html That will work?

btw..are u and ur brother twins? I'm watching ur youtube channel as we speak. havent gotten to see u 2 clearly as yet.

Thanks, it is fun to dream, shop the web and then put things together, the beast has to look sexy mate. One Bogen 577 QR adapter w plate for your tripod and one for your rod system, Eject the camera from the tripod and slide into the rod system, that is the best way of "staying assembled "between the set ups.

I am not a fan of unscrewing and then mounting on handles and back weight balance gear. Keeping everything mounted (handheld add ons) on your tripod is really hard to balance the camera for panning and tilting. It makes more sense to slide it off into a handheld rig with matching QR adapter plates. Yes they are the extended grips with long extensions added as well. The REDROCK shoulder pad is too much plastic for me, when mounting to the base.

Here are some links to help get your mind going on "building the perfect beast!"

The Bogen 577 adapter bracket will screw onto the B&H QR plate and then you will screw the 577 QR plate onto the camera. There is also a smaller one from Bogen, i believe it is a 377 but the tripod you are getting is a pretty lightweight set up. You might want to get at least a Bogen 503 and 525 legs for it, especially if you going to get a DOF adapter.
Cheers

thanks as usual Phil...ur the man!! :). i already have that tripod and it supports 18lbs. Guys here have used it with good results all loaded up (i saw the rig...hvx...adapter... marshall monitor, mattbox, redrock shouler mount) and it was going strong. I wont be loading all that on it for now ...just the adapter whenever i scrape up that $$ :) by the time i can load a monitor and mattbox and all kinda things on that i should have a better tripod.

B and H confirmed its supposed to work. thanks for all ur help!!

Btw are u aussie? u say "mate" in ur posts
