When you turn the track to volume mode . you have that line and you can adjust it and play with the levels of the track. When i do all of that stuff ad play the track the volume line has no effect on the track what so ever. Why is that can anybody help??
You need to switch the mix automation to "read" mode. It's in a popup at the left edge of each track in the edit window, or above the fader in the mixer window. If you press the option key before setting it all the tracks will be switched over at once. You'll know it's working when you see the track fader move corresponding with the volume changes.
Can you be a little more precise about what you mean by "no effect on the track whatsoever", and what your whole session looks like?
If you have pre-fader metering enabled, you won't SEE any effect of volume automation on the meter for the track you're automating... but you would see it on, say, a master fader. Could that be it?
"No effect on the track" - again, sorry, this is not clear - do you mean you HEAR no difference, or SEE no difference in meters/waveforms?
yes I adjust the line up and down but i don't hear the effect. Also there is a pan option in the same box that doesn't work as well. I see the lines adjusted to different lvls
You need to confirm what you're listening to. If you press the mute button on a track you're trying to automate level on, does it, and only it, mute? If not then you're hearing the audio through some other path, which might explain the problem.
Audio mixers work a lot like like plumbing systems. Double check to make sure the signal path is actually routed and being monitored the way you think it is (for example: are any channels that need to be in input or input monitor mode set correctly?), and that the automation you're adjusting is in that path.
You might also want to look at your Automation Enable window (Comm. + 4 on a Mac). Make sure that you are are not in auto suspend mode and that all your auto parameters are enabled.
Also a question about Pro Tools will get more responses on the Digidesign Users Conference. http://duc.digidesign.com/
You will also probably get more RTFM's but...
Make sure you
Are monitoring post fader - there are a number of ways to monitor pre which obviously will not have any level changes.
Have automation enabled.
Are reading the automation.
Have actually written the automation - after you moved the "line" did it stay there? or pop back when you played.
Are listening to the track with the automation on it.
There are a lot of other things that could be causing this (by your description) like having a clone of the track solo safed and not muted. So it's hard to trouble shoot with out more details.
I enabled the automation and it works. Thank you guys for dealing with this subject here. i learned new thing about pro-tools. I usually don't look into manuals because they tend to be confusing for me, maybe it is because English is my second language. i also grasp things better when I'm being told about it. anyway Thanks again.
