Another Opaciity Question

Is there anyway to start the opacity envelope later than the beginning of the clip. For example 1 or 2 seconds of black then fade in? Doing this with composite levels is a pain when I start moving the clips around. Just looking for a cleaner timeline.

Thanks in advance!!!

Re: Another Opaciity Question

Just trim the end of the clip so that it starts to fade in where you want it to. If you want to have sound during the few seconds of black, do what's called a "J-Cut;" Ungroup (click on the audio and hit "U") the audio from the video and drag the sound so that it starts further left than the video.

Remember, though, that you'll have to regroup the audio and video if you want them to move together.

Re: Another Opaciity Question

Thanks David for the lightning fast reply!!! I'm still not clear though, so let me try to explain what I am trying to do. I'm not concerned about audio, but I got your point about grouping. I'm tring to create title clips, where a name will fade in then out. That's how I see them done in Hollywood movies. However, there is always a few frames of black before and after each name. I tried this with composite envelopes and it works. However, when moving the clips around the timeline, it gets very messy with all the differrent composite envelopes. I'd like to work with the opacity envelopes withinn clips only but can't figure it out. When you say trim the ends, do you mean cut the length of the whole clip, or just the opacity envelope? If it's the opacity envelope, isn't that a fade out, not a fade in?

Thanks for your help - again!!!

Re: Another Opaciity Question

For single credits like that, don’t bother with the credit wizards. Frankly, I think they’re worthless. Use a text card for each credit and place it on the timeline as you choose. You can leave as much or as little space between them as you like.

Re: Another Opaciity Question

OK. I'll take your advice!!! ;D Do you make your text cards in Photoshop? Or do you make them within Vegas?

Re: Another Opaciity Question

Why not have a empty clip before and after the title and then use the fade handles (pie shaped curser) in the upper left and upper right corners of your text clip. drag them inward to create your fade?
Is this what your trying to do?

Re: Another Opaciity Question

Yes, that is what am trying to do. But, I would like to have just one clip to accomplish this. That way, it can be copied, moved, and adjusted very cleanly. If there isn't a way to add points to an opacity envelope, I think this is a worthy feature to add in an update. I have seen requests for this before.

Re: Another Opaciity Question

Just go to the "Text" presets in the Media Generator. Find one close to what you want and customize it.
