Another new HD monitor that's feather light

I know that everybody is going crazy for the Blackmagic Video Assist or the SmallHd 5 series. But I noticed that Ikan seemed to quietly release a small, fairly cheap 1080 HD monitor, too. It doesn't have a recorder but it is nearly a quarter of the weight of the Video Assist, it's true HD with an IPS panel and has pretty high pixel density at 440 ppi. It's also got 450 nit so pretty bright which would help somewhat outside. Anybody try one of these yet? The resolution, color and weight are attractive to me since I'm trying to assemble a very lightweight rig. It's also pretty cheap for the features offered. On the other hand, I've never been too impressed with ikan overall as a company. Makes me wonder if this is a rebranded noname Chinese monitor that's even cheaper.

ikan unfortunately does not have a good rep regarding most of their gear with anyone i knkw whos gotten their stuff...many local stories of returned monitors and other gear. yes, i believe their stuff IS rebranded chinese gear with a few modifications, that is what i have heard.

I WOULD NEVER EVER BUY ANYTHING FROM IKAN! First of all, I've never used an Ikan monitor that didn't fail. Every Ikan monitor in our studio is broken in one way or another, even our large Ikan studio monitor stopped working after less than 6 months use. Ikan products seem to be rebranded Chinese knockoffs. Put it this way, any time anything breaks, the first question is "is it Ikan" I've made it a point to chime in on any thread pertaining Ikan monitors due to the horrible experience we've had with them. I don't want anyone to go through the hassles and frustration, not to mention, have your monitor die five minutes into a shoot.

STAY AWAY FROM IKAN!!!!!! Pay a little more and go with..... well... anything other than" ICAN'T WORK PROPERLY"

I've bought several Ikan products, all of which I returned within the first week of owning. I've worked for some clients who provide gear and they had Ikan monitors. They worked fairly OK, but several of them crapped out in the middle of shoots.

I'd stay far away from Ikan for nearly anything.

yeah, hurts to say cause theyre a local company (yay, houston?), but thats what i hear from everyone about their stuff. the maybe exception is their LEDs. have a couple clients who have their 1x1 bicolor dimmable LED 3 light kit and have been using it for a few years with no real issues (sometimes the lights start turning on and off after running for a while on batteries but i think thats a battery issue.

Some pretty strong opinions here. I guess I'll steer clear of this one. Thanks. On another topic, anybody here use a Ninja Blade as your primary rig EVF? And does have any problems focusing without a loupe or just using the Atomos peaking functions? On top of the full HD display, the Ikan had zooming. I wish Atomos would introduce that in their recorders.
