Another mic question:AT815B / AKG C568EB?

Hi all!
I wanted to know if anyone has tried these two mics AT815B (about 250$) or the AKG C568EB (385$)

Does anyone also know if there are other cheaper choices but with a good quality? One that can be atached to the dvx and also on a pole (or you call it boom?)
I know the ME64 and ME65 with their k6 but, well, cheap is not exactly the word for them, is it? (though I know it's not very expensive...)

As you can see I want to buy a mic but I'm quite confused.
Thanks in advance for your help! :-)

the 568 is very nice sounding mike eveit not hos as his big brother 560+69 and not quet asthe other , but it have very rich sound and working werry well on eng , have 120hz lo cut and weight less then 200gr, isow those mike been abused by students and they soevive , not bad choice at all as camera mike , dont know how it react to humidity sinece worked with only in dry weather
the 815 b is something that you dont wont to deal with , very noicy , very poor out, sounds wery thin and complitely an usible on the camera , the lenght of the mike on such asmall camcorder will change your camera balance and you have to keep it out of your glass which will bring big part of it to sit over your camera motor,
in price range you are talking about maybe the at 897 can be another choice for you , it had very good revies from people around ( i personaly didnt work with that mike)

Thanks a lot for your answer.
I have seen another mic, the MK012, which comes with 3 diferent capsules, each one with a diferent diagram unidirectional,..., and omnidirectional. What do you think about it? Thanx!

the octava is agood valiu for the money and can serv you in interiaals shoots , you dont need all the capsuls for dialod the hipercardiod is good enouth and cardioid if you have extrimly situation when the boom cant moove and you need plase the mike in the midle of the action, the omny is for music mostly and not for picking the dialog
the mike is very sensitiv to handlig noise so you need good mike suspention with aditional lo cut filter if you run it directly to the camera (most of the mixers have lo cut on inputs to prevent overload in lo fq ,
that mike is very sensitiv to the wind so good isolation is needed
it not a shotgun so it doesnt have very good regection on the sides if you are working in noisy invierment .
i dont think that is the one mike to buy you are looking for , but it can be the secend after.

Hi Zab-

I own the AKG C568EB. I have to say upfront that I work for the comapny that owns AKG so I had some direct consulting with my colleagues there about microphones (and got a nice factory tour as well).

I was not married to buying from AKG (although employee discounts are a benefit), but the alternatives were too long.

My major deciding factors were:
- length (so it doesn't show up in the picture at wide angle)
- phantom powered
- directional pattern

In terms of frequency response, this mike is quite good/flat and will not be the limiting factor when it comes to sound quality.

It is solidly built and was designed for camera use. I have exposed it to some fair amount of humidity and so far no problems.

If yu are looking into camera-mounting, I would strongly recommend getting a mount that allows you to use the show on top of the handle. The Panasonic standard mount is crap, both in terms of user-friendliness (you can not quickly remove it if you plan on run-and-gun shooting) and vibration decoupling.

AKG makes such a mount as an accessory, but I am sure there are many other products out there.

Downside of any mike will be the XLR connectors, you can buy 90 degree connectors from Neutrik to make for a more slender rig.

Hope this helps...
