Another Lesson Learned... BEWARE of plugging into the board!

Sux they did that but life happens. They do sound good on that clip you put up.

BTW, is that your website it's hosted on? And do you put that on your business cards?

Just wondering.

Bwah-haha! Uh NO... are you kidding me?

That is my domain/website, but no it's not on my cards. The only people that know about it are you guys on DVXuser.

The name is a joke based on various experiences with certain people that make me go "el pricko" on them... I lost my previous site through ignorance of how domain ownership versus hosting works. My host was offering free domain and then when I changed hosts everybody on both sides said that I had transferred the domain, but as it turns out it wasn't... and I lost the name.

I guess I should let that one go and choose something else anyway... I would NEVER use that domain to show a client anything, but I guess even around here there are too many people that are humor-challenged for stuff like that.

I've got an artist's illustration of me as a cartoon character with a mexican flavor... and that's the logo for elpricko. I do a lot of goofy horror stuff and local projects that I don't really want to tie in with the other "more legit" stuff that I do... so I thought the name was funny.

I'm using 2 or 3 different domains in order to keep things separate. I don't want to help people that I don't really know find their way into my personal life either, but my friends have a different domain to visit then that one.

Twas asked tounge in cheek of course. I figure you too much of a pro to actually use that on a card...

I register all my domains on namebargain.com and then find a host for them. The free hosting sites do come at a price.

(actually one of my hosts allows multiple domains so I just point several to that hosting site).

It's "The Bob Cuban Band"... not Bob Cuba.

I knew you were going to say that...I looked up the Bob Cuban Band...and the only thing that hits is Bob Cuba...

However, when I tried again searching for The Cheater, I got Bob Kuban & The In-Men...

http://www.artistdirect.com/nad/store/artist/album/0,,116666,00.html

Wikipedia has some info on Bob Kuban...

Apparently he's a St. Louis boy who played during the opening ceremonies of Busch Memeorial Stadium in 1966 with The In-Men, and performed at the last baseball game played there in 2005 with The Bob Kuban Brass.

He's also part of a permanent exhibit of one-hit wonders in The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame.

No booking info....

Howdy Matt,

Interesting - before reading your post, at last night's PVA meeting I asked the event videographers how many of them relied on other contractor's mixer.

About half raised their hands. I sense the other half (myself included) are members of the SOHK (School Of Hard Knocks) with enough scar tissue to know better.

Yeah, the number of faders isn't necessarily indicative of either the operator's proficiency or priority consideration of other contractors such as us. We're relegated to an Aux bus which may initially be controlled by one fader, but later something like the PFL/Solo button is pressed/released and we find ourselves out in "la-la land". Not pretty.

Personally, I've got enough recording channels I use both the mixing panel and at least a few of my own mics for a backup plan (by the speakers if it's a big band or near the subjects if the number is manageable).

Better luck next time, Michael

As someone who has run live sound enough, I can confess to solo'ing a channel to check it's level on the peak meter, and forgetting to unsolo it for a few minutes. Sounds like what happened here, but you already figured that out.

What type of gear would you need to not rely on a contractor's mixer, yet keep it compact enough to manage on a quick setup/breakdown?
