Hey all,
Just got back from a shoot today (I was doing the acting thing rather than the sound thing...you can check out my acting at: http://www.philtalsky.com)
Anyway, I digress. The director forgot their boom pole and shock mount (a painters pole and some weird shockmount I had never seen) so of course I have my boom poles in my trunk most of the time, so I offered mine. And, since they didn't have a shock mount, I offered my AT897 (which I usually just keep in the blimp in a pelican case in my trunk, so it too was there).
Anyway, long story short (and yes, I know, too late...) after we wrapped the exteriors and moved inside (and yes, they were still using the 897 indoors...usually they use an ME67 indoors...even worse, but I'm just acting, remember?) We had a scene with lots of smoke, and the boom op bascially positioned my microphone directly in front of the smoke machine (fortunately still in the blimp, but still...) I immediately jumped in and repositioned the boom to a proper position (and showed the boom op how to hold it with his elbows locked so he wouldn't end up hurting his back...). But, let me tell you, I'm glad it was my 897 in the blimp, not my 416. I'd have made a much bigger stink.
Anyway, just thought I'd share....sometimes it is good not to sell something you don't think you'd need otherwise. ;-)
