Another DIY zoom controller variation

I enjoyed building the original DIY zoom controller so much I came up with this variation. I'm sure it's been done before but I've haven't seen it posted. This one uses 6 momentary pushbutton switches, 2 rows for each zoom direction: telephoto and wide and 3 buttons in each row for the 3 zoom speeds. You can press any one button to directly select the speed and direction desired without having to go through other speeds. 7 individual resistors are used to select the right resistance needed- see schematic below. Resistor values probably aren't perfect but hey, it works. 3 pushbutton switches are normally-open and the other 3 normally-closed.

I think I'll build a new one with better quality switches. These are from Radio Shack and they are cheap- quality and price. Disregard the button colors as they came in red and black both in each package.

Re: Another DIY zoom controller variation

Any idea what would happen if all the "out" buttons got pushed at the same time?

Re: Another DIY zoom controller variation

The resulting resistance would be 19.44k ohms. This would result in a fast zoom in. If built correctly, any combination of buttons shouldn't present a problem. Obviously care must be exercised when selecting buttons to get the desired result. That's why a lower profile button with more tactile feel would be better.

Is my math that bad? I get 30.3K

Parallels added, then divided, then add the serieses. No?

Serieses?

Re: Another DIY zoom controller variation

The lowest value parallel is 2.2k so the parallels will be less than that. I get 1.44k for the parallels, then add the series to get 19.44. It's product over sum for 2 parallels. ;)

D'oh! Just ignore me. It has been forever since I worked at the component level. :)

I have a DVX 100A and a Sony PD 150 also.
Do yuo know a project about a remote zoom and focus controller for this camcorder.
Thank you

Hello, I apologize for bothering you; However, I am stumped. I have been working on the DiY Zoom controller all day and have been successful at one thing......... Zooming out (20k).

I am looking for the Mid Zoom resistance level as I want to use the buttons and not the pot.

Just thought anyone who has had this problem could give me some info.

Thanks in advance

T

My camera is a DVC 30 (Yes its the baby brother to the DVX, but, it does everyting I want it to do).

Nevermind (not that anyone was looking anyway)...... I had to break out the multimeter only to find that --------------------------------------------------- was not value they said the were..... My Bad!
