Another 24p

I have read posts on this, but I'm pretty new to the whole idea of pull downs etc. I have yet to get my DVX-100b, I am going to need to purchase it before May is over...don't want to let the rebate run out.

Anyways, from what I understand...(i'm using Adobe PP 1.5) I can just shoot 24p in the DVX, import in pp 1.5 using the "panasonic 24p" option, edit, and export and everything should be fine. What about importing 60i into that timeline for slow motion of 30 fps?

For 24pa I get the idea that you shoot 24pa, import on a normal 29.97 timeline, edit and you're done. And you should be able to insert 60i and de-interlace to 30 frames for slow motion.

Am I missing something here? Will there be complications with burning DVD's with any of these setups.

Thanks in advance

You've almost got it Logan. But you shoot 24pa when you will be editing in a 23.976 timeline. And you shoot 24p, 30p and 60i, when you want to edit in a 29.97 timeline. You can edit 24pa in a 29.97 timeline but the motion isn't quite as smooth.

I had an issue editing my 24p footage in a 29.97 timelline in Premiere 1.5. I have since upgraded to 2.0 and things are much better.

So if I were to use a 29.97 timeline, do I still import using the "panasonic 24p" option? If I were to use 24pa would I use Panasonic 24p import option also?

If I shot in 24p, edited in a 29.97 timeline, what would happen If I mixed 60i in with 24p? Could I import 60i, and get smooth 30p slow-mo?

And finally, are there any problems with burning DVD's using 24p? Or would It just be a normal 29.97 dvd?

29.97 timeline...use the regular dv presets...lower fields first.
24pa footage...use the 24p presets...fields off.

The camera records everything at 29.97. Even your 24p footage. What it does is it adds a pulldown so your 24p footage can be displayed on an NTSC television. So your 24p or 24pa footage is recorded at 29.97. After the footage is captured, and you open it in Premiere using the 24p option...Premiere removes the pulldown and you are left with your original 24 frames.

You can open the same 24p file in a 29.97 project...and Premiere will recognize it as 29.97. And yes you can mix 60i, and 30p in the same 29.97 timeline with your 24p footage.

The advanced pulldown (24pa) method is for editing on a 23.976 timeline using the 24p presets in Premiere. But like I said earlier you can still edit 24pa in a 29.97 timeline.

You can burn 24p dvd's. The DVD player will add the pulldown on the fly so it can be viewed on a television. Or if you have a progressive scan television it will play at 24p.
