Annoying Premiere Pro CS5 Preview Render Issue

For some reason when I do a preview render in CS5 it will only render the in and out point of every cut instead of the entire timeline, even with the correct work area set. It tells me the correct total number of frames but it'll only render each cut. This is true regardless of the render options I choose. It's very annoying and tedious to work through. Is this a bug or is there some setting in CS5 that I'm missing?

So you still have a red render bar above footage?

You could always go to Sequence->Render Entire Work Area and try that...

No, it would render the footage, but only from one cut to another. If I want the entire timeline to be rendered, I would keep having to do preview render over every single cut. Already tried all the preview render options, it all does the same thing. Already check the work area, it's all correct.

hi mate,

all i do is click enter and it does the whole lot............but it only renders the footage that actually needs to be rendered. so in other words, if the footage already plays great but i add an unsupported effect / transition etc to a clip (non GPU accelerated) then it will just render that clip / section

cheers,

scott

All the clips on the timeline needed to be rendered (that is to say, the preview bar on the timeline all shows red).

hi mate,

in that case i "think" it can be easily solved :)

can you please tell me what type of footage you are using (ie, avchd etc etc) and what preset you are using?

i saw a vid just a couple of days ago that addressed that issue..........will try and find it for you :)

cheers,

scott

follow up to above post:-

watch this vid from 05:30 onwards http://tv.adobe.com/watch/davtechta...er-pocket-usb-cameras-with-premiere-pro-cs4-/

its about flip hd cameras on CS4 but id imagine that it will still apply to the problem you are having in CS5 with your footage.
in the vid the guy drops the footage on to the timeline and it gives him a red bar. he then searches the footage properties and then changes the preset to match it...........it then changes to a nice yellow coloured bar and plays back smoothly :)

hope that helps mate!

cheers,

scott

Thanks, but it's not a preset mismatch issue (although I am purposely editing on a different preset sequence since I'm downconverting 1080p footage to 720p to match various source footage). I'm already applying multiple layers of effects, such as scaling and color correction to the image, and so no preset adjustment is going to allow Premiere to play it in real time anyway. Preview rendering will be required. In all previous versions of Premiere, preview render will render the entire length of the work area bar, however in CS5 it will only render from cut to cut. That's the problem I'm trying to deal with.

There has to be something wrong here, I had my cuts with effects on it and hit Render the entire work space and it did render everything not just a cut as long as I have the workspace bar cover over all the cuts.

Solved it, sorta. I reinstalled Premiere on another comp and it now works as it should, so there was probably an installation issue there.
