Animated films...

Has anyone else out there started to notice when animated films are badly directed? I know this is mostly an opinion thing, but still. With animated films, direction lies primarily in timing and cinematography, and I recently saw both "Happy Feet" & "Shrek 3" , both of which I thought were directed poorly. Any thoughts? Animated direction?

hmm, not sure, bad direction may be subjective in some cases.

Can't say much about shrek 3. but 1 and 2 was decent enough (direction wise).

But some animated films are just done badly, probably because its pipeline is somewhat different to live action, here, well nothing exists, your directing dreams really.

Perhaps directors like Brad Bird and John Lasseter have just set the bar too high with their outstanding films. For more incredible direction, see also The Triplets of Bellville.

Didn't see Shrek 3 because Shrek 2 was so awful, but Happy Feet seemed benign enough. Nothing outstanding, but not terrible.

eh, i'm just waiting for the next breakthrough animated film.. so far i think (even though it was a terrible movie) Beowolf was a freaking breakthrough on realism... those shots were amazingly convincing..

check out Tekkon Kinkreet on Blu-ray to be completly blown away with what animation should be, imo of course. but i mean you cant expect alot out of those movies listed above. they put people in the seats with their fadness or sequel-ness, respectively
