Angels and Demons by Dan Brown

Anyone in here read this book? I have not read the Da Vinci Code, yet either. I just started reading this one. I get a little heebie-jeebie-fied when it comes to demony stuff, so I am wondering if this is a good read.... seems good so far, but I'm on, like, page 57. :)

Yeah, it's a good one. Topical, too, with the Vatican in the news of late. I haven't read the Da Vinci Code either, but those who have read both say they like Demons better. Enjoy!

yeah but don't take his books as absolute fact though, it's still literary fiction of his... ;)

I loved it. You should read the DaVinci code as well, but I also liked Angels and Demons better.

if i remember correctly, it gives a great deal of background concerning the conclave to select the next pope. very interesting read, if not a little (sometimes a lot) far fetched.

I might just be picky, but some little things that bug me so far are like the pilot who wisks the Langdon character off to Switzerland in the modified space shuttle has a cassette player in his car, and the very high-tech security measure that protects Vetre's lab containing the cannisters of anti-matter is a retinal scan. The book is written as if this is a new concept on the cutting edge of science. The copyright on the book is 2000, if I'm not mistaken. Seems like its somewhat dated, in a way that I didnt expect.

I like it so far, though, overall.

I've only read Da Vinci's code and I loved it. Pure fiction, of course, and what is a "summer popcorn flick" of books, but fun nonetheless. I read some articles about Angels & Demons and it's premise sounded almost like DVC, with murder in museum and stuff. I'll get it sometime this week, when I'm done catching up on Douglas Adams' legacy, I'm just hoping it's not the same book under different cover.

I came to be reading this book in a sort of wierd way. I was in KMart, looking at the dvd case, deciding whether or not to buy Shaun of the Dead (which I did), when this young man approached me asking if I read. Yes, I read. He then asked if I knew who Dan Brown was. Nope, I said. He prompted me with the Da Vinci Code. Never read it, I say. He looked stunned and walked away, but turned back and told me I should read it, but to first read Angels and Demons, that it would "change my life". I wrote the encounter off to the fact that I am still living in my wierd ass neighborhood. But he comes back, and asks if I ever saw For the Love of the Game, with Kevin Costner. Isnt that about baseball, I asked? He nodded. I dont do baseball. Again, he looked like I was from another planet and asked me what in the world kind of movies did I watch? But he didnt wait for my answer before he stomped off again. I'm standing there waiting for the store clerk to come unlock the dvd cabinet, so I dont want to leave the spot. And...here comes the wierd guy yet again. This time, I didnt wait for him to start talking to me, I jsut said "What now?" He asks me who do I think is the better actor, Tom Hanks or Ed Norton. Without missing a beat, I say Ed Norton. It was simply too much for him to take in as he started blabbering about all of Tom Hanks' movies and accusing me of liking Ed Norton "because he is hot". Firstly, I dont think Norton is all that hot, and he is a bit of an ass personally, from what I have read about him, but I do think he is the better actor. The young man leaves for good. The clerk shows up to get my movie out of the case, and I head to the checkout. As luck would have it, that strange young man is ahead of me in the check out line. I said to him "Hey...I'm leaving here and going straight to the library to get Angels and Demons. If it sucks, I'm going to hunt you down." I swear he looked like the crazy table had jsut been turned on him, but he saw Shaun of the Dead in my basket and commended me on my movie choice.

Wierdness abounds in this universe......and sometimes it concentrates itself around me. :)

That is really super weird.

I've read all of Brown's books. Once you've read them all, you realize that they're all the same story basically, though in Deception Point and Digital Fortress there's science instead of religion. You will also notice that he thinks that he is Robert Langdon, which is why Robert Langdon is so great. A "Harrison Ford in Harris Tweed." If you look on the back flap on one of his books, he's wearing a harris tweed jacket.

Angels and Demons is the best one in my opinion.
