Just picked up the Droid Eris...loving it so far. It runs Android 1.5, but I'm not a phone junky so I don't really know the difference between 1.5 and 2.0.

It is a bit scary knowing that google and my phone are in a relationship though...feels like they are watching everything I do

I'm at the upgrade/renew point with Verizon... I'd love to hear some owner opinions on the Droid. From a very brief encounter with one... it didn't seem to be anywhere near the iphone... on the iphone scale (so to speak)... and hey, before you smack me for saying that... I do NOT have an iphone... and I will NOT leave Verizon (since EVERY person I know locally is on Verizon)... but I'm just saying... my hope was that Verizon would eventually get the iphone... and when I saw the Droid I thought it might satisfy my iphone craving... but playing with it? Hmm... I don't know.

What's your experience (only if you've ALSO used an iphone)?

Both are very capable. However, I much prefer the Android devices over the iPhone, and they just keep getting better. Look at what Android has accomplished in just one year since the G1 debuted on T-Mobile!

The iPhone arguably still has the most elegant and simplest interface. But then again, the iPhone is a single-tasking (simpler) device. Android is multi-tasking and is extremely customizable. Plus it plays VERY nice with many Google apps.

If you have a geeky side, I recommend going with Android. Based on your needs, you can decide which hardware and carrier works best for you. It just takes a little familiarizing yourself with the environment to really "get it" and take advanatge of all the powerful features.
