and the new Robocop will be....

Loooove Robocop. 1&2 are some of my favourtie flicks. Really hope this turns out good.

Pleeeeeeeeease no, why remake something that was so good. What is the point. Just go watch the original. Damn it.

Oh, boy. This isn't sounding too good...Watched Robocop 1 the other day. Hadn't watched it in years. It really is an almost perfectly constructed screenplay...efficient, funny, satiric, moving. All the parts of it work. And Verhoeven executed it perfectly. There really wasn't any reason to remake it. Anyway, sounds like they are really messing this up--

I fully agree Batutta.

As for extending the RoboCop franchise, I've always thought the next logical step would be to go from it being about a dead police officer being resurrected as a cybernetic super-cop, to maybe a regular infantryman or special forces commando being brought back as a cybernetic soldier. Then of course the media would find out about this top secret super soldier and would turn him into sort of a superhero figure, and the military and OCP would use that as propaganda to further their agenda.

That way the concept can sort of be done again but it would be different enough to not feel like a straight up remake. Also, it fits with the RoboCop storyverse in that OCP was a big military contractor. ED209 in the original was meant to be sold to the military as well as for uses in urban settings. It seems this new RoboCop is going to touch on the OCP relations and dealings with the military, but only in a minor way.

Wait. Some of the ideas in that synopsis actually sound pretty good. The original Robocop only really worked because of the absurd satire that was handled so adroitly by Verhoeven; but those themes are very much a product of the 1980's (corporate power, rampant capitalism, the power of the media etc). Those themes would be a bit dated now.

The fact that they have criminal 'focus groups' helping design the look of the robot, and outsourcing the work to China, fighting terrorists etc in the new script; while this might sound cheesy at first it could work well as satire if its handled correctly.

I'm interested in this now that I see they are taking it in a different direction to the first movie.

They will probably update it so Robocop is defending the good and gentle 99% that are camped out on the sidewalk protesting the evil 1% of Wallstreet bankers.

If you do a search on corporate profits there are articles saying corporate profits are at an all time high, rampant capitalism still exists as wealth is consolidating into the hands of fewer and fewer people. Wages on an inflation adjusted basis have not grown a lot in the last few decades. The whole 99%/Occupy Movement. Media still has a ton of power. Super Pacs. I cite a few of these examples of how those themes still apply. And outscourcing to China is definitely a money driven move which has stripped America of jobs.

Oh I agree; rampant capitalism is at an all time high. Its just that after the 80's the theme had been fully explored, and thus a little dated. It will be interesting to see what direction they take this in.

Noooooo! This is the suit http://www.aintitcool.com/node/58358

Looks like any generic future suit. And it's slim so I'm guessing it's like the GI joe suit that enhanced movement. Totally opposite the old robocop.

I can't tell you how disappointed I am in this.

*** can anyone tell if this is the star? Not just some other character

I have to agree, I watched the original Robocop on Bluray again in the last few weeks, the film doesn't need a reboot especially one that doesn't look like it's capturing the ideas from the original. It looks like they don't even remove his arm in this version.

well being that noone this day and age know anything about satire or black humor (too busy trying to be "realistic" and "edgy"), I dont understand how this is gonna go. Geeezzzuuus, that suit looks AWFUL. SO FREAKING HUMORLESS.

The orginal was AAAAA SSSAAATTTIIIRRRREEEEEE!!!!!

no RATIONAL HUMAN BEING REALLY WANTS A ROBOTIC COP WALKING THE STREETS, THEY'D HAVE NO FEELINGS!!! ITS MEANT TO BE (DARKLY) FUNNY.

"Madame, you have suffered an emotional shock. I will notify a rape crisis center".

ITS BLACK HUMOR.

SATIRE.

MEANT TO BE FUNNY.!!!! GET IT!!!!! ?????

Robocop becomes MURPHY (human) at the end, because again, the idea of a fully ROBOTIC COP IS A SATIRICAL JOOOKKKEEEEEE

im quite sure they will miss all this, cause like everything post dark-knight has NO ROOM FOR HUMOR.

Sigh. When will the trend toward "realism" end!!!??!?!!?!?!?!

wher areeee yoooouuuu FUUUNNNN and SMART filmakers!!!!????

Presumably they will be layering some CG on that suit (as with Ironman)?

It remains to be seen if this movie will try to retain any of the originals black humor; from the script synopsis it looks like it will definitely have elements of satire though.
