And now for something truly unique...

Meet the Magellan 65mm camera.

Among the many bizarre things about this camera is a marketing photo where the operator is bizarrely holding the front of the camera body with his left hand instead of having the left hand on the lens. Awkward looking, that.

Okay, so you say you are liking what you see and you want to know where you can purchase a Magellan 65 of your own. Well, that might be an issue because, bizarrely, when asked if the Magellan 65 will be for sale or only for rent, the Chief Executive Officer of the company that designed and produced the Magellan 65 said "We haven’t decided on our business model for the Magellan yet.". So it isn't yet for sale or for rent. And ( bizarrely ) the company making it hasn't yet decided if it will be for sale, only for rent, or neither.

Logmar Camera Solutions isn't marketing the camera as a film camera. And they aren't marketing it as a digital camera. Instead, they are marketing it with the bizarre name of a "Digicanical" camera. ( a camera that is both digital and mechanical, one can only assume )

So who's ready to plop down a down payment on purchasing one? oh, wait...you can't buy it yet. Or rent it yet. Because Logmar hasn't yet made up their mind. Maybe they are waiting to decide until the howls of laughter at how ugly this thing is subside. Is there such a thing as being so ugly that it is cool? You know, like the Hummer? Which, coincidentally, initially wasn't available for purchase or for rent.

Newsshooter says this about processing film:

"Processing 65mm film is also costly and time consuming. For example it costs $773.50 USD to process a 500ft roll of 65mm Kodak Vision3 500T Color Negative film 5219. That’s $773.50 USD for 4 minutes of footage. Processing 1 hour of recorded 65mm film is going to cost you $11,602.50 USD!"

My first thought is WHY?...but then I also read this from the NS write-up and if they aren't losing any money (or haven't) then I guess why not.

" In 2015, Logmar sold some of their 8mm intellectual property to a film manufacturer intending to build their own camera and then used the proceeds from this transaction to create the Magellan 65mm platform."

Yes, that project stalled out and has yet to come into being. They made money off what appears to be yet another folly by Kodak...
