Seriously. I'm not trying to make trouble, and I never HAVE made any trouble. It's entirely possible that by posting this second thread, I can expect some sort of punishment myself. Isn't that ridiculous?

If you'd like, we can stay on theme by turning this into a lovely discussion of dystopian movies: I'm really excited about V for Vendetta. I really didn't like Equilibrium at all, except the pure action sequences. I didn't see The Island, but I recently met someone who called it their "favorite film of 2005" and I instantly lost all respect for him.
 
Doug, it's not that anyone was censoring you . . .

It's just that every time someone is banned, someone starts a thread about it and it goes on for pages. We just don't need any more of those.

In any case, I'm looking forward to V myself -- but it's something whose source material I like very much and it'll be very easy for them to rankle me with a change . . . .
 
I don't know anything about V, but would love to see a good dystopian film.
Brazil by Gilliam was fun but in a sense it was a compilation of scenes i have already previewed in other movies. If anyone remembers, the stair scene- directly from Eisenstein's Battleship Potemkin. Has anyone seen Alphaville by Godard, that was perhaps one of the most fun, dystopian-themed films i have ever seen.

Asshats will be banned. Period. Trust us. It makes it a more pleasant experience for everyone else (especially those that never have to deal with the trolls)

That being said.

Are you gonna get in trouble for starting a closed thread ? No.

Is it frowned upon ? Yes. And you knew that when you did it.

I have seen Alphaville, and it's a fascinating movie ahead of its time, but I would never describe it as "fun".

Yeah, I learned the hard way about getting my undies in a bunch over someone being banned, (though I did try to take my undie-bunched-complaints offline, I realized later that it was ultimately a waste of John and Jarred's time).


I realize now that it's REALLY FREAKING HARD to moderate these boards, for example, I just started seeing a new wave of new members who are obviously not hip to the general etiquette of DVXUSER and I thought what a drag it would be to have to moderate a constant influx of people who are used to trash talking and rude and immature behavior being tolerated elsewhere. I see some people making comments that it's not the same around here, but I think everyone has to do their part to keep it cool.

Life isn't perfect for sure, and I've come to REALLY respect the decisions these guys have to make to keep this forum operating smoothly. Because of them it's usually a productive place for me to learn my craft, and shoot the shiite with friends.

THANK YOU MODS, and forgive me for having ever given you crap in the past (John knows what I'm talking about!)

Why not? It has an enormous comic effect. Godard satirizes so many subjects in the film it is impossible to watch first twenty minutes(especially) without laughing. His use of background monotone of Alpha 66 is incredibly funny. What about dialogue? "i am a seductress, third class".
The cinematography advances the film smoothly, his simple, not at all grandiose photography and witty hand-held following shots create an ambience especially unique and surreal. You could say it is phenomenal (in its political context), effective and potent; undoubtedly, a fun film.

There is many reasons this place is far and above the best...

One is Rules. Another is the people.

We all hate rules, but with the firm [loving] hands here it keeps the peace. We have all been to forums with no rules and it's mayhem.

I think the "deceased" thread is just too much too much. We want to excommunicate these people, not regularly dishonor them on a commonly-visited server. I understand John could not stand for any abuse of his friends. I don't know, i just want things to be well. Meh...
