You see, I'm really interested in sending my shorts to festivals, and passing dvd copies around to friends, people, connections for them to view. I wanna make sure it looks right on their TV.
If 16x9 isn't such a big issue, why do so many people look forward to making 4:3 intos 16x9? sorry, I'm kind of new to this part =)
Personally, i dont have the 16x9 adapter, however, i find it (personally) best to film ALL things in 4:3 and then apply a 16x9 (or) 2.35:1 Letterbox mask in post production. Just use gaffer tape to make ur lcd 16x9 and frame your shots accordingly. Although i have never entered a festival, i am a huge fan of 16x9 but i also need to be able to use "Redrockmicro's" "M2" 35mm adapter. (if your using that adapter, i dont think its possible to use panasonic or century optics 16x9 conversion lense. (if it is, someone please correct me because i would technically like to have both and use them both at the same time) As someone else mentioned, i dont think festivals care as much about your pixel count opposed to your story. As long as your shot composition is good and your story kicks ass, i would think the amount of pixels tends not to really matter. (granted it needs to be watchable quality) but even after applying a huge matte crop such as a 2.35:1 scope in post, the films ive made look decent quality when displayd on a DLP projector.
Hope that helps some.
