Anamprphic Lens wobbly!!

Hi. I just bought an anamorphic lens today from B&H photo. I am astounded that it provides no way to line it up to make sure it is on the camera straight and even after it is tightened into place it is still top heavy and wobbly on the threads. If this is how they are made, what a sorry design for the big $$$$!

Here's a trick to help align the lens:

Take a sharpie and mark the plastic lens cover along the raised edge. Then when you have the lens cover on you can see the lines in the view finder. Rotate the lens until the lines are parallel to the sides of the view finder.

If your lens is wobbling then it's probably not threaded all the way onto the camera. Be sure to read the directions thoroughly on how to mount the lens. I've seen many posts where people have screwed up the lock ring. Just remember that tightening the screw locks down the lens the screw mount. That allows you to rotate the lens until the mount is fully threaded and tight on the camera. Then loosen the screw and rotate the lens until it's aligned. Then tighten the screw again so the lens doesn't rotate.

Heh, I was just about to post this same message. I will take HansK advise tonight when I get home from work. Regardless, it is odd that a better fastener could not be designed for an $800 adapter.

Almost all of the anamorphics wobble - but not back and forth - just up and down - by a millimeter or so. This appears not to have an impact on focus, probably because it's up and down, which doesn't affect the stretching of the image, vs back and forth, which does. I have talked to several lens owners, as well as the folks at EVS, even trying alternate lens there to check this "Play", The lens can never fit completely tight because that would affect the ring turning at the end of the Leica lens.

I agree with Cyclone, it is hard to lock on that lens, because it screws on rather than bolts on to the bayonet mount. But if you follow the "screw in - rotate - screw out and adjust" principle, you should be fine. Our rental lens has been doing fine for a year now. :)
