Anamorphic Widescreen in DVD Studio Pro 4

I am getting the Final Cut Production Suite once Apple ships the low cost upgrade at the end of the month, and one of the things I am looking for is the ability to let any tv flag the Anamophic Widescreen content that I author.

I only have IDVD, which can't handle it. Only some dvd players do it, and it has to be set like that, and I need to be sure it will always display properly on any tv.

Does DVD Studio Pro 4 do this automatically?

The world of 16x9 is so fuzzy. I have a project that I'm shooting in anamorphic. I edit in normal 4x3 as the footage is not flagged as 16x9, my edit system(FCP) doesn't know. I finish the edit, make a QT self contained movie (still 4x3) bring it into DVDSP3 and check "letterbox" (I'm not sure where this is located at the moment" When I play this on my 4x3 tv, my dvd player has an option to letterbox the material, but the copy I gave to my partner is in anamorphic, turns out that his dvd player does not have the option to letterbox the dvd. I'm not sure if dvd players are made so that they can be told what to do but I'd like to find out myself. My hunch is that you have to make that choice for them. Most people don't know this and just watch what they see.

But how does anyone author a dvd that does this. Any widescreen movie you buy, will always work. There has got to be a way to do it.

If you author with the 16:9 settings in FCP and DVDSP it will display properly on DVD players. This may give you a bit more insight:

I am running FCE right now and shoot and edit Anamoprhic footage in the Anamorphic timeline. I can export with compressor and get a quicktime movie that is 16:9. Once I get DVDSP, I will probably export with 16:9, MPEG 2 setting. So this is it?
