anamorphic timeline

Before i exported my anamorphic movie i put it in a non-anamorphic timeline and rendered it - so it will keep the correct aspect ratio for a DVD by putting a black mask on the top and bottom of the frame... I continued editing in this sequence setting and now have my final cut in this "non-anamorphic setting"

Now the problem I'm having is when I try to put this sequence into an anamorphic sequence it is squished horizontally WITH the black mask. I've tried to just CHECK the anamorphic box and I've tried moving bits of the sequence into an anamorphic timeline and the same thing keeps happening - black mask with swished picture. When I match the frame the clips are fine - they don't have the back mask and will fit in the ANAMORPHIC timeline just perfectly.

Any ideas as to how I can make this footage work in anamorphic timeline?

I see people have read this but no one has responded. i guess that means no one knows how to solve this problem. it's mind boggling.

If it's anamorphic footage, then there is no need to letterbox it (put a black mask over it). In a DVD player, on a compatible display, it will stretch the image on its own to fill the wide screen. On a 4x3 set, the player will add the black bars on its own.
