Anamorphic Telecine--Yes or no?

Hi, I'm having a digital master made from 16mm film shot in the '50s. From what I understand, since it was shot on 16mm, it is natively 4:3 ratio. The film will then be put out on dvd. My question however has to do with mixing the original film with documentary footage about the film and filmmaker. This footage I have shot at 1080/24p. I have been told different opinions how to best telecine this footage for editing purposes. One is to have it anamorphically done, and then I can rescale it in FCP so it will match the HD footage that I've additionally shot for the documentary. A diff. person has said I should have it telecined at HD quality, but at its native 4:3, so that there is no risk of the original image being distorted, and that I should just live w/ the pillar box. I hope this makes sense. Any suggestions greatly appreciated! Matt

Yeah what's the point of incorporating vintage footage if you're going to mess with the aspect ratio. Transfer flat to HD with a pillarbox- it will look great and you won't have to do anything weird in post or corrupt the original footage.
