Anamorphic problem. Help?

Hello.

I imported 1080i60 HDV footage in FCP 7. Used Compressor to pulldown my HV20 footage and convert it into a 720x480 for faster editing as my ram sucks. For some reason back in FCP -- it says Aspect Ratio NTSC DV (3:2) in FCP.

The problem is, I made the clips to my project 16:9 Anamorphic and only one of the clips looks like widescreen while the others look kinda squared, llke a TV aspect ratio in the slug/canvas. I'm just wondering how do I fix this? I want all of my footage to have this anamorphic look to it and forgive my basic way of writing. It's very late and I'm very tired.

Thanks for your help as always.

I'll post an example. I think my post was kinda unclear. Here are the actual footages shown in 50% at the canvas screen after dropping it in the timeline.

The look I want:

The look every other clip has:

Thanks. I have a feeling it's something simple, but I'm no FCP expert. Still learning the ropes.

Right (Control) click a clip with the problem, go to Item Properties>>>Format.... There should be a line for "Anamorphic." If there isn't a check mark beside that, add a check mark. You may need to drop it in the sequence again.

What's probably happening is whenever you encoded the files to SD, you failed to properly flag the source as being widescreen.

When you drop it in a sequence that it is widescreen, it frames it in the center because it assumes the source is 4:3, not 16:9 aspect.

Alternatively, you could try checking pixel size box, but I think the former solution should work.

Also, don't know your system specs, but instead of going to SD you could try going to ProRes. HDV is highly compressed, and makes the processor work harder than less compressed video formats. HDV is not a great editing format.

Hey thanks a lot for your help.

It is in fact Apple ProRes and a QuickTime movie. I did that in Compressor.

I'll try your method. I'll let you know if it works.
