Anamorphic Lens

Does using an anamorphic lens on a DVX100b (or any dvx for that matter) make the file size larger when it is transferred to a computer than it would be without the anamorhpic lens?

comedian....anyway because i'm the "too nice guy" no if you're meaning data size, no. if you're meaning frame size that would be no also because it's being recorded to 720x480. everything is the same difference being the image is squeezed down so that when it's displayed on a widescreen display the image will stretch and have the correct aspect ratio.

You might also consider where the final product is going. I had the 100A and lens but found using it to record church sermons from the back of the room under not ideal lighting came out soft. On the other hand using the 16.9 squeeze, worked fine with the final product going to DVD. Outdoors was never a problem.

I'm shooting ourdoors/indoors. I've been reading that it really imprves the image being recorded.

it in no way improves the image, in fact it makes it harder to get a good image due to focus issues. Only gain is u get true 16x9, u get a 33% wider picture. For me, its not worth $800 for a lens to give me a true 16x9 picture when no average person can tell the difference between letterbox, squeeze, or anamorphic. Plus 90% of tvs in the us are still 4:3... i'm gonna keep my normal lense till i get a hvx in a few years, and then it will be native out of the box so it won't be an issue.

I found the anamorphic keeps the sky from blowing out as easily for some reason. I shot some outside stuff on a bright day and had no zebras when the sky was in so I checked to make sure they were on and set right and they were. I usually have a polorizer and NDs on to help with the sky and it still give me zebras in spots when trying to get a good exposure on the subject. Maybe it was just a fluke but this is just what I noticed.

incorrect, sorry but the ana lense enables you to get a 16:9 image using every part of the resolution available on a DVX. It IS the highest resolution 16:9 option available on a DVX.

There are focus issues, although if you learn the focus technique and take the time to focus correctly (like you should with any shot), it becomes easy.

If you want to do a film out from a DVX the anamorphic adapter is going to give you the highest resolution 16:9 image. But, as I stated, you must MAKE THE EFFORT to focus corectly.

technically it's not improving the resolution :) you are in no way adding to the pixel count nor the lines that make up the image. all that's happening is the lens is grabbing a wider area and squeezing it down to fit in the 720x480 frame...oh wait i said that already.

however i do agree with making the effort on the focus. only problem i have with the lens is somebody else broke mine.

Actually it does provide the highest resolution for 16:9 shooting on a dvx. Why?... because it uses every pixel available. Cropping reduces pixel count.

Hang on didnt I say that already?

Anyway my point still stands.... the Anamorphic Adapter will GIVE YOU THE BEST 16:9 RESOLUTION ON A DVX.

no not a battle of wits, but i get his point now he's (you) are comparing it to either the squeeze or cropping which i would agree using the adapter does give you the better if not best results...but overall it is a glass lens and doesn't "improve" resolution. if you get what i'm saying because i meant quality.

speaking of adapters did century optics ever get around to making an anamorphic adapter fro the DVX?
