Anamorphic Lens

Sorry to ask such a dumb question. This is all new to me .What's the difference between the anamorphic lens and using the camera in the letterbox mode ?

Re: Anamorphic Lens

The anamorphic lens squeezes a 16:9 image onto the 4:3 CCD, giving you 16:9 at full resolution. Letterbox mode adds black bands to the top and bottom of the screen, leaving a 16:9 shape in the middle. Because it doesnt use as many pixels, letterboxed mode has less resolution than footage shot anamorphically.

Re: Anamorphic Lens

do a search for any of the terms you're wondering about. this is a much discussed topic.

short answer: letterbox just crops the image, anamorphic squeezes the image, using more pixels.

edit: too slow on the post.
