Anamorphic lens protection and filtering

'k, I want the anamorphic (16:9) lens and I'm sure going to keep it safe and sound under my pillow at night (next to some other stuff you don't wanna hear about :-X).

But what during shooting? I mean, I always have at least a skylight/UV on EVERY lens just to physically protect it. Am I right that there is no such thing for the anamorphic adapter? It obviously has no filter thread. So the only way is to buy the chrosziel matte box (which is cheaper in the US than here in Germany where it comes from :P), especially if I also want to use filters for filtering and not only for lens protection...

What are you guys with an anamorphic adapter doing? Killing your aunts to get the money for the chrosziel? Getting a good insurance? Leave it unprotected and pray? Buy a cavision and hammer it for a few hours to make it fit?

Re: Anamorphic lens protection and filtering

I cap mine when not in immediate use. I use a french flag on it from CineTactics which keeps the lights off ($35 and it fits on the 16:9 lens pretty well with a little Velcro--sure beats the price of matte box alternatives). Otherwise, I am going "commando" when I shoot with it, i.e., nothing at all. If someone has a good idea, I'm all ears.

I don't usually have additional glass between the lens and the subject unless it's a somewhat perilous proposition (rain, flying rocks, etc).

For the anamorphic adapter I usually shoot "unprotected". If it really matters to you, you could get a 4x4 skylight filter and just clip it inside the lens hood, it should fit just about perfectly (the inner dimensions of the lens hood are like 4.25 x 4.5 or so). Devise some little clip-in type of thing to hold it in, and you should be good to go.

Hey Bart . . . do you manage to attach a cinetacticcs filter holder to the french flag? Give us a pic of the DVX with ana with flag some time pls!
