Anamorphic lens NO NO's

I have been using the 16x9 anamorphic lens for months now and I just noticed that the instructions for the lens say do not use the lens with OIS (Optical Image Stabilizer) or AF (Auto Focus). I have been using both of these features with no ill effects that I can see. I do notice that the camcorder does not focus when it is completely zoomed in, but that is all. Does anybody know why it says that? Am I missing something that I will regret later on?

Appreciate any feedback.

Re: Anamorphic lens NO NO's

You should get a copy of Barry's anamorphic guide which will answer all of your questions and more:

OIS and AF should not be used because they are designed for symetric lenses. The anamorphic is symetric on the vertical plane but not so on the horizontal plane. This bending of the light horizontally is what allows you to grab a 16x9 image in the 4:3 camera.

Ok, that's probably not the best answer so I will let others chime in or maybe give you a chance to do a search on the forum (I know a better answer is out there).

ditto.

i won't answer a few of the questions on the anamorphic lens simply because i would be quoting barry's guide and that doesn't seem fair.

Re: Anamorphic lens NO NO's

Both questions have been answered on the forum before. Autofocus GUARANTEES that your footage will not be optimally focused, and OIS can introduce odd distortion into the video because the lens is "bent glass", so when you use OIS you change where the camera is looking through the lens, and can be looking out through a more-bent portion of the glass...
