anamorphic lens for 100B

I know there is an anamorphic lens available for the dvx. I'm working with a director now that wants to shoot in anamorphic so that he can try convert to film eventually and show at festivals.
Does anyone have an knowledge as to whether this effects the quality of the video? Will increasing the ratio of the image force the camera to add noise when we capture and uncompress. is it better to do it optically with the lens or in the camera settings. Is it possible to do it in the camera settings?

Any help would be apprieciated. I don't know very much about anamorphic video and could use any help available.
