Anamorphic "check" issues....

I am currently editing a feature-length (yikes!) movie for a local independant filmmaker. At one point we discovered that some of the footage we'd captured wasn't put in anamorphic like the rest. Thankfully, simply checking the "anamorphic" option in the item properties seemed to fix it, but there are one or two scenes I foolishly already did a rough cut for without checking the clips. For some reason, once the footage is in the timeline, checking neither them nor the original clips results in any change; they stay filling the screen, looking "squeezed." I know that I can always just re-edit the scenes by matching up the in-and-out points, but is there anyway to change the anamorphic settings in the timeline, so as to spare my poor, frazzled nerves....? (also, why is it that some of the shots we're capturing are coming in already checked, and some not? I'd like to know, to avoid this problem in the future)

One more problem... As mentioned above, we've been "checking" any captured footage that doesn't make itself letterboxed in the timeline, and it's worked completely so far... except for one stubborn little shot that just doesn't seem to want to change. Checked or not, when it goes into the timeline, it still looks squeezed. Is there any way to convince this clip to even out, or must I resort to physical violence to change its mind? Since it's only one shot, I suppose I can make it appear letterboxed by stretching it in the other direction with the motion tab; would that result in any loss in quality or appear different somehow than the other shots next to it? Even though I can fix it, I would still just like to know what the hell is causing it; I'd hate to think there's some hidden timeline issue that will come back to haunt me during exporting or something.

Please, lend me your collective knowledge! Many thanks in advance.
