Anamorphic Adapter/FCP & Quick Time

I have logged & captured my footage on FCP using the DV NTSC 48 kHz Anamorphic pulldown tab (I shot with the Anamorphic adapter). However, when I export to Quick time, my footage is still vertically stretched. In other words, it doesnt looked letterboxed or wide screened. What am I doing wrong? Or, is it not supposed to look wide screened? Any help is appreciated.

I believe that the problem you are experiencing might be a potential bug in FCP. When you open the clip in the viewer, check under the "motion" tab and pull down the "distort" section. Aspect ratio should be set to "0". In my experience with FCP 4.5, the aspect ratio likes to default to -33.33 when capturing under the anamorphic preset, which gives the squished look you describe. Hope this helps!

its no bug in FCP...

Quicktime does not "correct" your footage the way FCP does. FCP use the "anamorphic" flag to adjust the aspect ratio.. QT just displays the native image size which is 720x480.

you need to either adjust manually in QT.. or enocde to a specific size to get the right aspect ratio...

if you are planning on burning a DVD then just encode with the "widescreen" setting of MPEG2 with the original "Stretched" looking file..
