anamorphic adapter CAN'T be edited in Vegas?

I need advice from those of you guys who edit PAL - anamorphic footage on VEGAS.

I shot feature on DVX100AE (PAL) with anamorphic adapter.
After the capture I cant make my Vegas to burn 16:9 footage.

Why?

1) When you capture your PAL anamorphic footage what settings do you use?

2) When rendering for (CD or DVD) what settings do you use?
I need AVI and MpG renders but did not get 16:9 footage at all.

If you edit PAL anamorphic, please contact me cos it looks like till now (after 3 days of "trying") I am still in the point where I started. I just have captured 13 hours of footage but I am not able to BURN a CD which will be 16:9 at all.

Thanks for your help.

Don't use PAL often, but the workflow should be similar to the NTSC workflow. Capture the footage as normal. Open up Vegas, and choose a new project, "PAL DV Widescreen (25.000 fps)".

Import your footage. Then go to the media bin, and for each clip, right-click and go to "properties", and change the pixel aspect ratio from (1.0926 PAL DV) to (1.4568 PAL DV Widescreen).

Edit as normal.

When it comes time to output your project, choose the template "DVD Architect PAL Widescreen video stream".

When you go to author your DVD, it should come out as a 16:9 widescreen DVD...

Are there any tricks to editing NTSC squeeze? I've just been using the NTSC DV 24p template. If I use widescreen it looks weird. The way I'm doing it looks right, but as Obi Won said, dont trust your eyes, they can decieve you.

Re: anamorphic adapter CAN'T be edited in Vegas?

If you're bringing squeeze footage into a normal 4:3 template, it's probably letterboxing your footage, right? Which is not what you want (if it was, you should probably have just shot letterbox in the first place). It's converting your widescreen footage into 4:3 footage, adding black bars.

Squeeze footage should more appropriately be edited using the NTSC DV 24P Widescreen template.

Re: anamorphic adapter CAN'T be edited in Vegas?

Actually it doesnt look like it should. I just opened up a squeeze file, and changed it to widescreen, and it then looked like a 4:3 image in the video preview. Weird enough, but using the undo/redo I toggled between widescreen and standard, and either way there was the same ammount of data in the picture, but in standard it looks like a widescreen image, with proper proportion and whatnot. It behaves the reverse of what logic would tell you. Now, if memory serves, and I believe it does in this case, Vegas 4 was the opposite. (Im using 5 now). I distincly remember setting it to widescreen back then.
If you need an itty bitty clip to test let me know and I'll email you a little. I'd really like to know the be all end all before I get too deep. Much appreciated sir!

Sure, send a small clip over, just PM me with the link and I'll download it...

The preview in vegas does not show widescreen footage by default. It will be at the normal Dv aspect ratio. Right click on the preview window and click "simulate device aspect ratio" Your footage will now look like it should, however, it will look blocky becuase it is just being simulated. When you render the final footage, however, it will look correct, and not blocky.

Ok, looks like Scharkys got it, but thats a weird way to work with the blocky previews. Would it matter to work in standard and then output to wide? Again, thanks so much!
