Analog Converter

I am interesting in purchasing an analog converter. I want to be able to capture my VHS tapes directly onto my computer. I already have the means to copy my VHS directly to a DVD, but I'd rather just capture straight onto my computer than ripping a DVD and converting the VOB files. I have an iMac with Final Cut Pro, as well as a DVD/VHS combo player.

I was hoping someone here could give me an in depth explanation as to what I need and how I set it up and use it properly. My school's library has an analog converter, but there's no instructions and no one at the desk knows how to use it.

Any help is appreciated!
 
Do you have a digital video camera? thats really all you need. it acts as an A/D converter - just hook up the inputs to your VHS outputs, play back the video, and capture to your computer directly as if you were capturing a tape.
