An extra $1,000 for your budget

isn't it hard to make a generalization about this? doesn't it vary hugely based on the needs of the project and what you already had going on?

That’s why I asked how you’d spend the extra $1,000 on “your current project”. No generalizations, just very specific to exactly how you would have spent the extra $$ on your specific project.

If you’re not currently working on a project your most recent would suffice. I’m a big believer in analyzing your most recent project and thinking through how you’d do things differently next time - I think it’s the most valuable way to learn and would like to learn how people would have spent that extra $$

Well, on my current project they're adding more than $1k to the budget for extra editing days to have me essentially relight the art sculptures in post because they should have been shot flatter/more documentary and less stylish. Also shooting them all against white instead of black would have helped with the edges of these dark sculptures disappearing. But both those issues were incorrect creative decisions and could have been solved with a clearer idea of what the client wanted rather than more money.

On the shoot itself, it would have been great if they had rented an FX6 instead of using their FS7 because the whole thing is like 2 stops underexposed even though the lighting looks great (albeit too stylish). And that underexposure is really making my job as an editor more difficult because of the noise and the difficulty in separating tones at the bottom of the exposure and also how the color just disappears down there. Fx6 rental is under $1k tho

What they really want is a reshoot but that would cost over $12k which is way more than $1k and more than they want to spend
