Hey everybody!
When I first put my AT897 with Rycote onto our HVX, I was shocked to see the node of fur right at the top image whenever I was wide. This really sucked. It was like bigfoot had his ass hangin over the front of my lens hood. What to do???
Well the AT897 is a long mic and the rycote just pronounces this. So what I needed was to bring the mic up a couple inches. The next day I went over and saw the mayor who owns a metal fab shop. I had one of the old boys take a little piece of aluminum and shape and drill holes to create an extenesion of sorts for the hvx mic holder.
The problem, though when I wanted to slip the camera into my Tortlerig, I had to unscrew the thing and that is just a time wasting pain!
So like everything I searched far and wide and agitated sales tools with lots of 'dumb' questions. But amongst them are some really great people and one of them referred me to a company that makes VERY nice boom poles and blimps called mklemme .(http://www.mklemme.com/)
They have a whole slough of mic mount options here.
I got this K-CAM-SM direct from them for $85.00 and let me tell you it has been worth every penny and then some. Besides provide GREAT isolation, it is a solid piece of gear and the fiinish is A plus. I am all over the place and the AT897 stays firm and solid and has never slipped or dropped once.
There is plenty of clearance for my matteblox hd, even with the extended hood. And if you have a mattebox on steroids well they have something for that also.
It comes right off in a hurry and stay with the mic right into my pack. So bottom line, I get to have my cake and eat it too!
But some of there product numbers sound pretty close. The nice lady who took my order got the letters mixed up and sent me out the wrong hookup. I needed it for weekend shoot, and they Fedexed me out a new one, no charge that day to fix the scew up. Customer service is fantastic, and the these guys besides having a stellar product know what it is to please the customer.
I give a big :thumbup: thumbs up for m.klemme and their killer mounting gear!
