"AMONG US" LEX Short

Well-known member
I set out this morning to do a short with my brand new LEX.

I never have time to do anything besides work so today I decided to change that.

I took my new gear home so I could go early to a park that is between my house and my studio. As expected my wife decided to go with me so I missed the morning mist.

At least we had a beautiful day. Temperature was in the high 70s and the sky was clear.

I took my daughter with me to help me carry my tripod while I carry the hugh camera bag. I took my HVX, LEX and some Nikon lenses plus batteries and the FS-100.

Here are some stills and I should have the short compressed shortly.

I hope you enjoy them as mush as I did.

I'm not exactly sure what it is about your stills, they are nice, however EXTREMELY blocky. Not the best compression perhaps? Or maybe over saturated?

They look fine on my LCD screens and the only compression they have is to JPG.

I am going to check on another computer later.

I am still uploading 68 MB to post later. Check it out and tell me what you think when I finish uploading.

Going to download the video when im at home.

What are your sharpness settings in camera?

wow looks like you had a lot of fun here... it was loads of fun to watch too- but I got to admit, lots of artifacting as PaPa is suggesting, but still lots of fun to watch.

I have my sharpness setting at factory. I have my saturation at +2 and matrix at cine (I think that's what it is called)

Thanks for checking it out.

I didn't see the compressed version, but I used a preset setting made for a smaller frame. Maybe it needs to be re-compressed for 720. The blacks are crutched and that makes it hard on compression and also with not high enough contrast ratio monitors.

Most LCDs have contrast ratios below 1000:1 so it would show banding.

Check the youtube version and let me know if it still shows the same srtifacting that the h 254 720 has.

EDITED: I just checked the 720 version and as you said the compression is terrible when ever there is not a define image.
I'll keep it up until I re compress two new size and resolution versions.

I am going to check the you tube version now.

I think that a couple of notes will be helpful for some of you that like me have only started using the LEX.
This is only the second time that I've used the LEX or a 35 mm adaptor.
This is what I have notice so far:
I am able to close f stop up to 3 stops without seeing any artifacts on a 42" Plasma.
I am able to use speed of up to 1/120 second (never tried any faster)
I can set the zoom on my HVX from 18.7 mm to full 55 mm and zoom through.
My focus on camera looks the same at 5.12' as it does at 5.25
I had to adjust back focus for my Nikon mount (It should be easier to do and I hope that the Letus people come up with a solution)
I also had to force center the image by adjusting the bolts that hold the adaptor to the filter thread. (There should be a way to center the ground glass instead)

Another thing I notice is that since you are working with an image that has a larger area of OFF (out of focus) it makes it harder for Compressor to do an easy compression. Not impossible but you have to re-think how you compress. I wish Philip Bloom would give me his settings :violin:

Here is a 640X360 version

The 1280X720 should be up as soon as I can find a good compression.
