So here is a show that runs 2-3 nights a week in prime time over the entire summer, multiple hours each night. (lots and lots of commercial time)
They constantly, and I mean constantly bring up that the winner of the show
will win 1 million dollars.
I was watching this show on my dvr tonight and was rather shocked at the small print at the end of the program.
The 1 million dollars is paid out over FORTY (yes 40) years.
I realize the major lottery jackpots work this way (but I believe much less than 40 years) but in my opinion this is incredibly lame.
If I had to guess I think just about every single viewer thinks
the winner is handed the prize money at the end.
I think thats the major draw to the show,
an unknown talent gets picked from obscurity and their life is changed
forever.
The small print mentions the winner can opt to take the starting amount of the annuity and be done with it but what would that be $25-40K at best?
Thats gotta be about 5 seconds of advertising time from a show that runs for 10+ weeks.
I realize the exposure for the act is great blah blah blah
but even though I know I'm over reacting I find the fact that they hide
this in the small print very lame.
In a day and age where an actor on tv can make over a million an episode (multiplied by an entire season) it's sad that the little guy gets hosed
by the "man".
I know im nuts for even wasting my time writing this
but I wanted to vent
All that being said I hope this home town girl wins it all.
Shes in the final 4. Amazing voice for a 10 year old or any age for that matter.
