American VOICE OVER Idol... any members with golden pipes?

"competition?"... uh dude... go nuts. If you have a VO you want to share, share it... I think we're just having fun here... except for Rick... he's about to start a new career path.

Callaghan... thanks for doing a VO! Damn... I'd hoped more people would show themselves... it's still good to see this much response though... I'm having a good time with it. :)

I've been racking my brain to think of something to offer as a prize... but so far it's more the question of "is there anything I can send Rick?"

I want audio toys. Of course, Rick is hereby disqualified for being too good.

I know, offer up your best mic, Matt. That would be nice in my locker.

Damn, I have hit a snag. I want to VO the demo reel, but looking at it, I want to showcase my accents. Errr.

I think Mocking Bird might get a better respose.

Damn, I'm going to have to sing it now. You tube cut this place off.

That's me on the left: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5f_gbzo4Q0

Kudos to Matt for displaying some huge man-jewels by posting not 1 but 2 audio clips. I'm impressed. And inspired. Aw hell, I'm in. I got nothing to lose...but dignity. I'm currently not set up to record anything new. Perhaps this weekend. But, I found something I wrote and recorded couple years ago. First, I need to set it up...

Every year my family and I get together around the holidays to record a Christmas album. Usually we sing our favorite songs. Or, we'll kick it up a notch and record a Christmas play (i.e. "A Christmas Carol" or "It's a Wonderful Life", etc.) with music and sound FX. A couple years ago, I thought it might be fun to record a "preview" for the album in the same vein as a Hollywood film. I added some lame-o text to the audio clip just to give you something to look at.

In hindsight, I my pace is far too slow. But, it is what it is...

holy crap. that was awesome! now you have to post some footage from your family's play.

OK, here's mine, recorded in one take, as that's all the time I had before my son came home, so there will be NO QUIET in my house for the rest of the day.

KyotoNils

Zoom H2, 256 kbit MP3

Kyoto is rocking it also... another clean, articulate voice.

To be honest I think Rick still has the best pipes, but uh... Rick... do you care to take a stab at this "copy"? (just so we're all saying the same thing).

Chip... you're the new competition for Rick... honestly I could go either way.

Yikes! You guys are killing me. Talk about pressure. Seriously, I am flattered and a bit surprised by the ‘thumbs up’. Because I don’t normally go around talking like that. My speaking voice is fairly average but I can get it low and dramatic if I want to. It’s from years of theater and acting. But it isn't normally that low. I placed it there on purpose. And, I’m sure I was helped by the ‘production’ of it. The music and sound effects in the background and the touch of reverb does wonders. So, I don’t feel comfortable getting all this praise when a lot of it must go to the reverb and electrical amplification that comes from a decent mic.

I do all my audio recordings at a friend’s house about 30 minutes from here. He is someone who probably could have gotten into sound design if he wanted to but went the corporate route. Matt, I will try to zip up there this weekend to record your copy but I seriously hope I don’t let anybody down. Who wants to be that guy? Sheesh.

In the meantime, I will try to convert a clip from our “A Christmas Carol”. Uga, there is no video. It was strictly an audio project. From there, you will see that my voice isn’t normally that low and “ballsy” as was in that preview. It’s closer to my speaking voice. I don’t think you’d want that voice for a narration project anyways…

You can't upload MP3's, but you can put it in a zip file and upload that. The red upload button on the reply box lets you know which file types are OK.

Let me ask a conversion question. I have some cda files from a CD that I'd like to convert into wav files to preserve all the information. The program I downloaded will not let me do this. I can, however, convert to MP3, then convert the MP3 to WAV. Am I correct in thinking that once I convert to MP3 the extra audio information is forever lost therefore converting to WAV is just a waste of time and does not enhance the audio at all?

I'm listening to the audio, nearly side by side, and they (mp3 vs. wav) sound almost identical. But, psychologically, I think the wav sounds better but probably only because I think it should...

I thought almost any program will rip cda to wav?

Either way... if you want to save your whole CD file as a wav then don't do an mp3 conversion... because yes, you will lose something. Beyond that the question is a personal one... about how closely you listen to music... and how you'll listen to music in the future. One thing is for certain... storage will constantly get cheaper... so even if you're looking at giga-conservation now... there's not much point in it... so I agree... go wav at full audio res.

I recently unpacked some speakers that I built (like 14 years ago) that have been in my parents' basement through my assorted moves over the past decade... and on hooking them up I was really shocked at how much detail there is in music (that I forgot about). For concentrated listening I have some HD600 cans (pretty darn good)... and still... my speakers seem to reveal a lot more about the recording then even my cans do. I can hear an improvement with CD over mp3... even mp3 at really high sampling rates... the CDs still sound more complete and natural.

This is a matter of taste (as I've been saying)... but if this is the question your asking then I say do NOT convert your CDs to mp3 in order to convert them to wav... just get a wav ripper.

Here's a free program that should do it for you AUDIO GRABBER

Okay, here's my entry...

Or... not. What part of the embed or share do you put between the YT tags?!

I gotta' be honest... as for the postings in this thread... I think Erik may be leading.

That was pretty good... I'm going to go back and do some critical listening...

Hey... by the way... thanks for showing yourself... not that it means anything, but I appreciate it... I really enjoyed that.
