American VOICE OVER Idol... any members with golden pipes?

Kudos to Matt for displaying some huge man-jewels by posting not 1 but 2 audio clips. I'm impressed. And inspired. Aw hell, I'm in. I got nothing to lose...but dignity. I'm currently not set up to record anything new. Perhaps this weekend. But, I found something I wrote and recorded couple years ago. First, I need to set it up...

Every year my family and I get together around the holidays to record a Christmas album. Usually we sing our favorite songs. Or, we'll kick it up a notch and record a Christmas play (i.e. "A Christmas Carol" or "It's a Wonderful Life", etc.) with music and sound FX. A couple years ago, I thought it might be fun to record a "preview" for the album in the same vein as a Hollywood film. I added some lame-o text to the audio clip just to give you something to look at.

In hindsight, I my pace is far too slow. But, it is what it is...

Rick... damn, if I had YOUR voice I'd post clips all goddamm day... you have a great voice dude.

Horse... you're around my level... I gotta' admit I laughed in a "you and me dude" kind of way... You might be better then me at the VO effect...

So far Rick has set the bar pretty high.

Again... feel free to input some new, or changed copy... (everybody)...

Damn, Rick. Kudos!

Getting things set up now for my "entry", I think, I am going to lay a track on my demo, just for giggles. After asking for copy, I apologize Matt.

I took a stab at VO a couple of years ago. Joined one of those web pages that had literally thousands of VO artists competing for a few jobs - and thanks to the competition, vo's go for about 30 bucks and up. Got thoroughly discouraged. Then, this year, I responded to a Craiglist ad for a local business wanting a VO artist for their "on hold" ads. They picked me for that one and I got a hundred bucks for about an hour's work . Now we're talkin'!
Here's my attempt at the "World Wide Web" script (crank up the volume):

Coincidentally, I just finished my first audio project for a class. So here's what I came up with. I think it kinda sucks, but it's perfectly appropriate for this thread. Oh, and it's 1 minute long. Way too long for internet attention spans, but just right for class requirements.

NEW COPY SHOULD BE AS MAINSTREET POSTED! (cuts out a couple stupid words... flows better... I think we should even remove the word "full" to keep some subtle humor).

I say, here it is:

"In a world wide web of confusion and misinformation, one site stands alone... one site, on a quest to inform, educate, and entertain everyone in the film community. That site is DVXuser dot com."

Great job Mainstreet! That should bring us down to an easy 15 second post as well... a standard commercial bite.

Nice VO from you too Rob... and more importantly, thanks for the back-story on your own bit of VO work... because that was my point with this. I've met a few people who had fantastic voices. My ex had one of the best female voices ever... people always thought I had a fake message on our answering machine... something I recorded somewhere, but nope, it was a real chick that sounded like that all the time. I even got her on a radio show for nearly 15 minutes one day when I sent them an email stating that she blew away the female voice of the show (they always played a "boing" sound when the woman on the show talked... and I told them that wasn't sh*t for sexy.)

Rick... if this doesn't tell you something... I don't know what would. Chip knows. The thing I struggle with is trying to have an articulate and engaging voice that doesn't sound forced... I think that's the biggest challenge for anyone without a natural ability for VO... and it doesn't sound like you're struggling for that sound at all.

I think you've got it naturally.

Let me put it this way... I hope I can get you to record something for me on a future project.

Here you go, my "entry".

And yeah I know, still got that German accent to it.

Frank

Awesome deep voice there, Rick, if only mine had dropped a few more steps. I'll try to get something in here tonight, though don't count on me using any nice mics (I have none :embarasse).

Oh I can't wait to have fun with this...

I can't tell you how bloody great your voice sounds, PERFECT. You have baaaalls of steel.

I think Rick's got top honors with Frank close behind... I'm taking "brain melting" out of my next (replacement) submission... and frankly (pun intended)... since you guys are giving it a legit attempt... I'll use a better mic and go for the best result, as you guys have. (this won't change my placement in the rank any, but I'm going to do it anyway).

Frank, you have what sounds like almost a southern USA accent... but it seems to waver a bit in intensity through the VO... stronger towards the end?

Frank... I think you have some potential there as well. I don't know if it was the qualifier about being German or what... but your VO gave me chills... You'd be another good person to source for some VO in something. I'm going to start writing names on my desk again... in sharpie. That way I have a daily reminder about people I want to work with... I call it "MattinSTL's List".

Anyone here like Rick's voice alot that they keep playing his video? But not in a gay way?

And yeah... I keep playing both Rick and Franks clips... but I know what you mean about Ricks. I'm playing that one over and over also... yeah not in a gay way... but I find it does sound better with my pants off.

LOL - I just hate it that I can´t get rid of the German accent. But if you ever want me to VO a Nazi, that might actually help :D

OHMYGAWD!

When I grew up we had about 20000 GIs here in town, used to hang around with them a lot. Most of them where from Alabama or Georgia.

Looks like I ended up on a German accent with southern drawl.

Holy cow guys thanks! After the sh*tty 1+ year that I’ve had the positive feedback, especially from this gang, is nice to hear.
For that clip, I purposely tucked my voice as low as humanly possible for me and let the electrical amplification of the mic do the rest. I’d share another clip of something entirely different if I knew how to get it off my damned iPod and convert it…

Post! I love it! And Matt is totally right. I can hear a pretty solid southern drawl. Which is funny. Call me ignorant but I thought for sure you would start out by saying, "Unt in a verld vide veb of ...." I really need to travel and see the rest of the world more.

I played it about 10 times, it's great now but with a voice coach he could have some real potential, I'm also pretty sure if you put him in a studio today with high end equiptment (no voice coach) people would pay him for VO's. Has some real potental.
