The classic thing about coven is how true to life it is. Mark's character is an alchohalic writer without a success. His best friend wants him to go to groups (Mike shank).
But in real life he cant justify why he wont go, so in coven when the main character finally goes to a meeting, they turn out to be blood thirsty cannibles (or something, i dont remember). Watching Coven after American Movie makes that angle much more enjoyable... once.
and 30 min is too long for just about any short film.
I tell everyone I meet who is interested in filmmaking to watch American Movie. The scene with Mark slamming that actor's head into the cupboard door is just pure classic material.
I wouldn't have given Coven more than a few minutes if I hadn't seen it after seeing American Movie.
