American Movie is a 1999 documentary about one man, Mark Borchardt, who attempts to make his low-budget short horror film Coven, against seemingly impossible odds. Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival, American Movie is an inspiration, comical, and uplifting tale of an average Joe from Minnesota who followed his dreams right to the indie red carpet.

AM holds this mystical power over me. I can't explain it. It is at once a depressing train wreck and an inspirational story.

One of my all time favorites. the cast of character in this doc could not have been dreamed up by the Coen Brothers on their best day.

I met Mark at a HORROR convention on a panel together. I really want to meet Mike Shank more than life itself!
