I just ordered a product from them that came with free shipping. It said it would take 5 buisness days and now they've delayed my package TWICE. So It's been two weeks now.
You also have to check where its being shipped from. Sometimes it says will be shipped by an outside vender. I bought a book once and it never came and I let amazon know that i never received it and they refunded me right away.
Hardly a scam.
Yeah, I've ordered many a book from them with no problems. I have noticed that they offer some items used. These items are usually sold through smaller vendors associated with Amazon. So, if you order from one of their associates, you may be delayed a day or two more than ordering it directly from Amazon (Isara/Amazon, of course...).
I've order about $200/month worth of stuff from them during the last 5 years or so.
One CD got lost in shipping. One got refused by the post office. One book got cancelled as unavailable. And things have been delayed in five instances or so.
Excepting those, most things arrive in about a week, even though they go through the military postal system (which is anything but fast).
What you have to realize is Amazon doesn't (usually) stock the stuff they sell. I don't think they ever do, actually. They're just a middleman between you and the manufacturer (or someone else perhaps.) That's why their prices are so low - no stock to maintain and no shipping department so no overhead. So they're somewhat at the mercy of another company's shipping department.
Ordered dozens of dvd's through them, got them everytime, sometimes in less than a week.
(only once had a beef, but not with them... the freakin sticky security seal didn't peel off properly on the cases and the covers were all ruined(big pet peeve) - 4 dvds in one order all had same issue)
