I came across this video and found it to be GREAT! How to use flags. This is kind of dedicated to all of those posts we see, "Is this light kit from B&H going to make my video look like a Hollywood movie?" Well.... There is a little more to it...

Would love to see how flags differ from barn doors in this type of setup. Would also be nice if they had a segment showing a top down view of the lights. Not bad though.

Barn doors tend to produce softer shadows since they're very close to the light.
Barn doors tend to be good for cutting off large areas of light but for fine work flags are preferred since you can change the distance and shape.

Plus flags are much more useful in our times of soft lighting. Barn-doors works good on Fresnel lights, but with soft light, they often do little as you either spread the light out (shooting it through a scrim for example), bounced or using a large source (like a Kino-Flo) you often can't use the barn-doors on the lights, or they don't cut enough. Then flags are very important to control the spill.
